The Museum of Kyoto - Annex (Former Kyoto Branch, the Bank of Japan) — Attraction in Kyoto

Warning – Misleading and overpriced experience

We visited the “Annex Museum” and paid 1,200 yen per person. To our surprise, there was no proper exhibition – just a few photos on the ground floor, a spice shelf, and one room with a video upstairs. After that, there was nothing else to see.

We were not given any ticket or receipt, which is highly unusual and felt very suspicious. We originally thought we were entering the National Museum, which is just around the corner and costs only 500 yen – and actually offers real value.

This place felt like a deliberately misleading setup targeting uninformed visitors. Definitely not...

Might seem like a regular historic site from the exterior but in fact the building hosts ingenious design with the sliding gates and windows for one of the oldest, biggest bank back in the days in the region. Paired with unique European architecture in the second floor balcony, this place is a must see for any history buff! Plus the stationed guide is very friendly tho he speaks limited English. He was very kind and patient with explaining the technology involved with the construction of this early 20th century western-influenced...

The building is designed by a famous architect, Tatsuno Kingo.

When we visited, there was a choral concert going on. Additionally, there was a cute cat that was wearing sunglasses sitting outside.
