Read moreExtremely Disappointing Stay – Poor Service Overshadows Good FacilitiesI chose this newly opened property expecting high standards in both facilities and design. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short. While the building and décor are impressive, the service is on par with a hostel — not a hotel. From my prior stay at Mitsui in Fukuoka Gion, I was already aware of their indifference toward Trip.com customers, but this property managed to set an even lower standard. In my room, one of the two bedside headboard outlets was defective. My phone began charging normally before I went to bed, but due to faulty contact, it stopped overnight. I woke up to find my battery at just 28%. When I reported this to the front desk in the afternoon, there was no apology, no maintenance check, and no sense of accountability — only the dismissive remark, “So what can I do?” I requested an apology and asked that the matter be escalated to a manager. The next morning at checkout, it became clear that my request had never been passed on.This property enjoys a prime location and has been fitted with facilities above the usual Mitsui standard, but it operates with no service mindset whatsoever. Only after I stated I would leave a one-star review on Trip.com did I receive an apology — far too late to change the impression. In my opinion, this hotel will only meet the expectations of guests who receive extra courtesy as Westerners and are willing to pay a premium for it. For others, the experience is likely to be...
Read moreThe Mitsui hotel experience begins soon after exiting the Kyoto train station. We were able to drop off our luggage at the Mitsui hotel 2 blocks away from the station (although a little difficult to locate without any good exterior signage) & have our bags transported for a small fee. That freed us to sightsee and explore the city unencumbered until it was time to check in Check in was fine, although not quite as gracious or seamless as some other hotels. The room was huge (by Japanese standards: king bed and plenty of room, including a desk and table/sitting area. Everything was well appointed. The only downside was that we had a first floor room facing a brick wall. Breakfast offers a reasonable sized buffet plus a choice of cooked entree.||||The public bath was large and nicely designed. It was a wonderful treat to take a nice soak after a long day of sightseeing. Also appreciated the laundry facilities. You could monitor both the bath occupancy & laundry usage from the room tv; super helpful.||||Loved the location: 2 blocks away from subway stop, 10-15 minute walk to Gion, 5 minutes to NIshiki fish market, and across the street from the Cultural Museum. The neighborhood is fantastic, full of upmarket shops and restaurants, but within walking distance of the busier...
