This restaurant is a hidden gem in a quiet and quaint Nara neighborhood. This was my first time ever trying Japanese curry so I wanted to make sure I went somewhere local and with a good atmosphere. I was not disappointed at all with the friendly husband and wife running the restaurant. The food was amazing and I love that they offer 1/2 portion size plates so you can try different plates without ordering too much food at once. I got the chicken curry (full size) and the baked curry (half size). I’ve never seen baked curry before but it tasted amazing especially the cheese on top. At the end of my meal I ordered cookies and ice cream with a hot tea. The wife also spoke very good English and was helpful on explaining the menu. Please try this restaurant if you’re in Nara. Side note: this restaurant is located in an alleyway so it can be hard to locate at first. I added a pic of the alleyway for reference.

I visited here on my second trip to Nara. I've lived in Japan for two years and this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The curry was balanced in flavor with great additions of meat and vegetables. I had the chicken curry and a chai tea which both were amazing, the chicken curry was not spicy but spicy oil could be added which added a nice kick to it! The tea was lovely with a great chai smell and flavor. The owner speaks good English too which I appreciated since my Japanese isn't the greatest. A great cozy spot away from the tourists for a great meal. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. It was also a great experience for my friend who visited me here. I can't express my gratitude more to this establishment, the experience alone made the trip to Nara worth it.

Curry and Cafe Koruri is a hidden gem in Nara that we discovered through Google Maps. Despite its off-the-beaten-path location, we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. When we arrived, the place was empty and had a very local feel, which added to its charm. The interior was nicely decorated, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. My girlfriend, who typically doesn't enjoy curry, was impressed by the pork curry marinated with sake. She found it delightful and flavorful. I opted for the vegan curry, and it was equally delicious. Both dishes were well-prepared and satisfying. At the end the owners sent us off with a deer origami gift. Curry and Cafe Koruri is definitely worth a visit for anyone in Nara looking for a unique and tasty dining experience.

Probably one of my favorites places I’ve eaten so far in Japan, came based on the good reviews and it didn’t disappoint!! The curry was amazing :) we had the pork curry with summer vegetables, pork curry with grilled pork marinated in sake and the chicken and spinach and they were all delicious!! The drinks were also great especially the black tea with 3 types of jam (never seen anything like it) and the milk tea with cinnamon and cardamon!! The place has such a cozy atmosphere and the couple running and really sweet, we even got an origami deer after as a little gift!! Will be one of my favorite souvenirs from my trip to Japan!! Would recommend this place to anyone visiting the Nara area ❤️

What an absolute find on Google maps on a very hot day in Nara! The cafe is located on a quiet side street and was a welcome respite from a lot of walking around the city. The owners were so lovely and welcoming (we were the only ones there) and were very considerate of us drinking enough water and taking our time before continuing with our day. There are only four curries to choose from (one of which is vegetarian). We ordered the three meat ones and all were delicious. My favourite however was the one we got as a half size: pork with sake lees - such a unique and deep flavour. We will come back!

My girlfriend is Vegetarian, and it’s hard to find vegetarian food in Japan. Luckily for us, when I was trying to find somewhere to eat with vegetarian options, I found this amazing place. The food is amazing and super tasty, and the owners are the most welcoming and warm people in Japan. If you came to Nara, please make sure to visit this place. We ordered one vegetarian curry and one pork curry, if was delicious. If you are very hungry, order two different ones, you won’t regret it! They even gifted us some origami. 🥰 Thanks for an amazing and delicious experience.
