Picture this: After enduring a lengthy flight and train journey, you finally arrive at Tomamu. Your spirits soar at the sight of pristine snow powder and towering peaks. Welcomed warmly at the hotel lobby, you're handed a traditional analog key, which you find charmingly quaint. As you're escorted to your room, anticipation builds for a refreshing shower and some well-deserved relaxation. Entering your room, you're delighted to discover an observatory hot tub offering stunning views through expansive windows. Spotting a sauna nearby, you eagerly anticipate trying it out. However, your excitement dwindles upon entering the shower room to find a disappointingly small shower head. Your dream of a rejuvenating shower evaporates, replaced by the stark reality that for the next few days of your stay, after a long and exhilarating skiing adventure, you'll be contending with this inadequate sprinkle. No need to thank me because I do not wish such experience on other travelers. This just isn’t the kind of Hoshino you expect. It’s got outdated faucets and hardware. This place is in desperate need of renovation. I guess the real owner of this place, China’s Fosun group, just doesn’t want to fund it. It’s too bad because this really ruin the Hoshino brand and we won’t be coming back. It’s 2024 and there’s plenty of nicer ski resort in Hokkaido.

We came all the way from Germany and have been welcomed and helped in english very well. The staff from the hotel as well as the whole resort was very friendly and always there if we needed something. The room was amazingly big (considering Tokyo hotels) and the resort in general had many restaurants and paths for walking. With the activities here you wont get bored! We came for the unkai but were a bit unlucky, since its a weather phenomena which doesnt occur every morning. However, there is a farm with lovely animals nearby, you can also book beforehand rafting or canoe trips (sadly we saw it a bit too late). In any case, our stay was great and highly recommended to foreigners specifically who want to escape from the big city for a couple of days.

Next to Hoshino Tomamu Tower. The additional dollars are worth every single cent. We stayed here on Christmas Eve and Christmas (2 nights) and had to move to Tomamu tower for the next few nights. Man, it’s heaven and hell. I don’t understand how the 2 hotels can be side by side but so vastly different. Hoshino Tomamu Risonare: no queue at reception, lift to room, ski rentals, lounge, kids lounge, clean public toilet (See pictures) Hoshino Tomamu Tower: queue at reception (nonstop), queue for lift to hotel room, queue for lounge (impossible to get a drink without queueing), disgusting toilets. We were so horrified we immediately asked to pay for extra at Risonare but hell…They were fully booked!!!!

Our first Winter Honeymoon was splendid! The view, the snow, the food (especially breakfast at Sora & Soup Curry Garaku, which we patronized every day), the service—almost everything was brilliant! Special thanks to Mr. K Shibata, who went the extra mile in helping us carry one of our big luggage pieces while climbing the stairs at Tomamu Station. May God bless and repay his kind heart! 😇🙏 The only downside was the Suite, which felt old and dated. (Also, my wife had an unpleasant experience feeling disturbed by "something unseen" while taking a night bath on our first night. Thankfully, in Jesus' name, those things went away 😁). We love Risonare Tomamu and will surely come back!"

This is a must if you are visiting Hokkaido. Not only because of going in the full Hokkaido countryside, but also because of the multiple activities you’ll be able to go. Staying at “The Towers” or Risonare I think doesn’t make too much of a difference, but apparently the Risonare feels less casual. There are outdoor activities with animals, hot air balloon rides, a big waves pool and several restaurants to choose from. Obviously you need to go on the gondola to the top of the mountain to see the sunrise and the Unkai, or the sea of clouds. That is the highlight of this place. After that you can go to have a very early breakfast buffet that’s also amazing.
