It is quite hard to get a dinner booking here, and we managed to book at front desk even though the online site say it’s all full.
We were seated promptly in a private dining booth. We ordered the shabu set menu. The meal was great but not to the point of amazing, given my expectation was higher.
The sashimi was great, but the sushi is mediocre - it looked unique but the taste doesnt fit well together, almost like random seafood and rice put together. They were presented nicely, which makes it fun to munch at it.
The hotpot: Wagyu was perfect taste great with their soup base for hot pot - loved it. The seafood in the set menu was good but wasnt up to my expectation. We had better, bigger, sweeter Hokkaido scallops elsewhere at cheaper price.
I liked the presentation of the dessert. But restaurant was closing so we were a bit rushed by the staff to finish it or pack it to our room.
The set menu was quite a lot of food, so we barely managed to finish everything. Give the price point of the menu, I would say this meal is enjoyable and alright. The restaurant offers private dining booth, and is located in the ski resort, which could justify for the price of the set.
Overall I would still recommend coming to this restaurant for a nice meal, just enough to satisfy your immediate craving after long day of skiing / adventure. However, it is better to get better food in Sapporo if you are aiming for higher expectations. SORA is an absolute must-dine if you’re staying at Risonare Tomamu. We had the ultimate delight of experiencing one of the most delicious Japanese breakfasts I’ve ever had. Everything was so beautifully prepared and presented with such care.
The standouts were the incredibly fresh sashimi and the delicate, silky tofu — both absolutely spot on. All of the vegetables and produce tasted so fresh and full of flavour, it really felt like the best of Hokkaido on a plate.
All the rooms here are private, but we were lucky enough to have a corner room with a stunning window view of the mountains. It made the whole experience feel even more special — peaceful, scenic, and just a beautiful way to start the day.
Can’t recommend this place enough. A real highlight...
