A small park with good observation deck for seeing the Japanese alps. About 20-25 mins walk from the takayama station in the direction opposite to most of the tourist spots in takayama (hence much less crowd). In fact when I visited on a Saturday afternoon I was the only one present in the entire park. Apparently a bear was spotted here 2 months ago but since it's now peak winter and they may be hibernating so I felt safe. The walk up the small hill is easy only about 60m elevation gain. It had snowed recently so there was fresh snow and therefore I didn't slip. Otherwise be careful of walking up and down the icy road.

We went up to the park in the evening hoping to catch the sun set. However the west side of the park was covered by buildings and trees. The east side reveals as much of the range of mountains from the north to the south as it could show. This is a nice quiet park. Besides us, there were four students training and a lady walking her poodles at the park. An excellent place to retreat from the touristy town below.

How amazing for a view of this beautiful town! I even met some wonderful locals who joined me in a conversation amd we took photos. Came up in summer, and on a clear day, so could see all of the mountains. Would be amazing in any season on a clear day. Worth the walk. You can get the bus from the JR Train Station but you still have to walk up the winding road. Don't worry about the wild boar signs.

How amazing for a view of this beautiful town! I even met some wonderful locals who joined me in a conversation amd we took photos. Came up in summer, and on a clear day, so could see all of the mountains. Would be amazing in any season on a clear day. Worth the walk. You can get the bus from the JR Train Station but you still have to walk up the winding road. Don't worry about the wild boar signs.
