Small, but beautiful shrine conveniently located on the Toei-Oedo line, probably a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest station. I visited in mid-February, during the peak of the plum blossom season, and I was not disappointed! I went during the early morning on a Friday, so crowding was not an issue! The shrine is home to Tenjin, Kami of learning and education, along with Ameno-tajikaraono-mikoto, Kami who is a Kami associated with strength and sports. If you have an upcoming test, are awaiting acceptance into a school, or have something sports-related coming up, you should stop by, make an offering and a prayer!

I generally only visit this shrine during the Plum Blossom festival in February. I like this shrine because it's relatively easy to find when using Google Maps. The Shrine is also near the Ueno area which has a nice park and a lot of eating areas. If you get there during the peak of the plum blossom season, you'll be treated to quite a sight. The photos I loaded with this review are from my last visit and as you can tell, I was a bit late in the season. The visit was still fun however, as there are a variety of food and drink stands open. It's so relaxing to enjoy a tea or a beer under these trees.

This shrine is beautiful and has a quiet environment. The plum blossoms attracts a lot of visitors during February- March.. The park within the shrine grounds appears attractive. This place is worth a visit during the Ume Matsuri (Plum blossom festival) and thus is quite crowded in the weekends (during this period). If you prefer less crowd, visit this place on weekdays... Get off the train at Hongo-Sanchome station (Oedo Line) and walk for around 900 meters. Alternatively, take a Toei bus from the Hongo-Sanchome bus stop and get off the bus at the 3rd stop from Hongo-Sanchome...

This ancient shrine was founded in 458 CE for the worship of the god Ameno-tajikaraono-mikoto. Then in 1355, it became one of many "Tenjin" shrines throughout Japan - the most famous being Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto. Tenjin is the name of the deified spirit of the famous ninth century scholar Michizane Sugawara (845-903). Sugawara, a high government official, was originally deified in a placatory response to the natural disasters that hit the then capital, Kyoto, immediately after his death in what had been his politically motivated exile.

If you are appearing for an exam this is definitely a right place for you, children will be here before exam where they have a specific God which has the tendency to bless peoplw with education as per the belief. The location is beautiful and has many interesting things like Traditional Omikuji Machine with moving dragon robot Inside and occasionally there will be events for example the time when I went there was a Monkey performance which will be very rare in 🇯🇵 Japan, so visit and save some positivity.
