This was without a doubt one the highlights of my visit to Japan! Truly amazing and beautiful, so many owls of varying sizes, plumage and colours. I should also add - this is NOT a cafe as such, there is no food or drinks on offer, so the name is a little misleading. When you book, you get 45 mins in the company of many owls (I'm guessing ... maybe 20-30 owls?). Owls are sensitive birds and you have to be VERY quiet, no sudden movements and you must follow the concierge's directions carefully if you wish to touch them (with one finger, on the head above the eyes only). There are seats and instruction booklets outside the venue, I strongly recommend you look through the booklet while waiting to be admitted. The venue is not large - two rooms, beautifully decorated, and many owls on perches in both rooms. Initially it's quite daunting - so many owls! You are allowed to choose two owls to interact with (one at a time), it's so hard to choose, they're all adorable! I chose two of the larger owls - Gorilla (beautiful female owl, very calm!) and Mr President (amazing 'eyebrow' feathers!). Being larger owls with larger claws, I had to wear a leather glove on my hand. The concierge placed the owl on my hand and because they are large (1.5kg) and I'm not a big person, a wood block was placed under my hand so I could rest my hand on it. Being up close to an owl is amazing!! The concierge takes photos of you (you can also take your own photos) and you can sit with the owl for as long as you like. When you're ready, the concierge will remove the owl and bring your 2nd owl to perch on your hand. The biggest owl, Takoyaki is 3kg (so gorgeous!) and the smallest owl I saw, Shrimp, a mere 60g, wasn't much bigger than a fist, too cute! Each owl has a name plate above them with their weight, DOB and type of owl. Some owls have 'Baby' labels above them, and some have 'Break Time' labels while they're resting. The venue is beautiful, the owls look incredibly well cared for, classical music plays softly in the background. Each owl is on a short leash attached to their perch so that the larger owls cannot harm the smaller owls. When the session is finished, you are presented with two laminated photos taken by the concierge (included in the fee). You can also purchase all the "ultra-high-quality shooting data taken with the highest peak full-size camera" online for a fee and the funds will go towards the cost of owl food. If you post a review within 3 days from the date of your visit, they will give you "one free photo data taken in commemorative photo". There are also postcards and other owl merch you can purchase at the venue. When I return to Tokyo, I will definitely book in to see...
Read moreThis ended up being one of the most magical and unexpected highlights of my trip. Just a short walk from Akihabara’s electric madness, Akiba Fukurou is like stepping into another world entirely. It’s calm, elegant, and genuinely heartwarming. From the second I walked in, I could tell this was something special.
The place is beautifully minimalistic — white walls, soft lighting, peaceful music in the background. It's all designed to make the owls comfortable, and honestly, I felt just as relaxed. There are over 30 owls here, all with their own names and personalities, and they’re treated like absolute royalty. Some are tiny and shy, others are big and proud, and you get to interact with them in the gentlest, most respectful way.
Before anything starts, the staff (super friendly and clear in English!) explain everything — how to pet the owls, what to avoid, and how to hold them properly if they come to sit with you. They really care about the animals, and you feel it the whole time. This isn’t some cheap animal café gimmick — this is more like a peaceful sanctuary.
The best part? The staff take a professional photo of you with an owl perched on your arm or shoulder. They even print and laminate it right there. I walked away with one and I honestly treasure it. It's such a cool keepsake from a very special moment.
Everything about this felt personal and memorable. It was quiet, intimate, and filled with little moments that made me smile — like watching the tiniest owl close its eyes while I softly petted it. Booking ahead is a must (they only allow a small number of people at a time), but trust me, it’s so worth it.
If you need a break from the high-energy, neon craziness of Akihabara, or if you just want to experience something truly unique and soul-soothing, Akiba Fukurou is perfect. I left feeling so relaxed and honestly a little in awe of these amazing birds. Easily one of the most special memories I took...
Read moreAn Unforgettable Experience at Akiba Fukurou (Owl Café Tokyo)!
Visiting Akiba Fukurou was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. This isn’t just another themed café — it’s a peaceful, intimate encounter with some of the most beautiful creatures in the world, paired with exceptional hospitality that makes the experience unforgettable. I would recommend booking the private session as you will have more time with the Owls and no crowds.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and professional. You can immediately tell how deeply they care about the owls and about creating a serene and respectful atmosphere for both guests and animals. They provide a clear and thoughtful orientation to ensure the owls are treated gently and the experience is enjoyable for everyone.
The owls themselves are absolutely mesmerizing — each one with its own personality and story. Being able to interact with them in such a quiet, respectful setting was magical. Takoyaki and baby Egg were my two favorites- but they are all amazing!! The setting is calm, beautifully designed, and perfect for photos. We especially appreciated how organized everything was; it never felt rushed or commercialized, just sincere and incredibly well done.
What really stood out was the exceptional hospitality from the hosts. They took photos for us, answered questions, and made sure everyone had meaningful moments with the owls. It’s rare to find such a thoughtful blend of education, care, and hospitality in one experience.
If you're visiting Tokyo and looking for something unique, peaceful, and truly memorable, don’t miss Akiba Fukurou. It's more than a café — it’s an emotional, joyful connection with nature in the heart of the city.
Highly recommended and definitely will...
