Walking through the neon-lit streets of Akihabara at night felt like stepping into a living postcard. The huge billboards with anime characters, the flashing lights of game centers like GiGO, and the constant flow of people at the busy intersection made the area feel alive.

Just a short walk from JR Akihabara Station, I spotted the familiar BicCamera sign glowing against the skyline, guiding me toward the store.

Inside, BicCamera AKIBA turned out to be more than just an electronics store—it felt like a multi-level treasure chest. Each floor was neatly arranged by theme: computers and gadgets on the first floors, beauty products and snacks higher up, and finally, the section I was most curious about—the hobby and anime floor.

That’s where I found myself surrounded by shelves stacked high with Gunpla model kits and anime figures. The aisles were lined with colorful boxes featuring different Gundam series, while glass displays showcased fully assembled models, giving me a glimpse of the finished artistry. It was impressive to see the range—from entry-level kits for beginners to intricate builds for seasoned hobbyists.

Another section caught my attention: rows of paint markers, sanding tools, and modeling accessories, all carefully organized. For anyone into customizing their builds, this floor seemed like paradise.

It struck me how comprehensive the store was—you could buy a kit, pick up all the tools, and get started right away without needing to go anywhere else.

The store itself felt very international-friendly. Announcements about tax-free shopping, extra discount coupons, and even barcode translation support made it clear that they expect a lot of foreign visitors. I noticed free Wi-Fi signs as well, which made it easy to look up product details while browsing.

What stood out most was the sheer energy of Akihabara surrounding the store. Even after leaving BicCamera, stepping back into the buzzing intersection with its glowing signs and packed sidewalks gave me the sense that this district never really sleeps.

I have never encountered such poor service during my numerous trips to Japan and have never encountered such poor service as I did during my recent visit to BicCamera AKIBA.

In a major tourist area like Akihabara, this was especially disappointing. She completely ignored my presence while speaking in Japanese to her coworkers, showing no effort to acknowledge me.

When I asked her to scan a coupon, she ignored the request and proceeded directly to show me the final price and ask for payment. When I inquired again about the coupon, she began talking about refunds and limitations related to my card or spending limit. This may have been a translation issue, but it came across as presumptive and inappropriate to comment on a customer’s financial capacity.

What troubled me most was her demeanor. When I tried to communicate further, she met my gaze with what felt like a confrontational expression and said something in Japanese that sounded threatening. She then used a translation device, continuing to glare at me. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe.

I sincerely urge the management of BicCamera to investigate this matter seriously and ensure that all staff receive training in customer service, cultural sensitivity, and respectful communication. Experiences like this can deeply impact a store's reputation.
