Chapel of the Gates of Dawn — Attraction in Vilnius

I visited the green and great city of Vilnius in the middle of November this year with my wife. We loved this beautiful city with a huge area of old historic town that dates back to the 12th-13th centuries. We visited the historic Gate of Dawn, which was built between 1503 and 1522 as part of the city's defensive fortifications. It is the only surviving gate out of nine that once surrounded the city. Inside the gate, there is a chapel that houses a painting of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn (Lithuanian: Aušros Vartų Dievo Motin) , a revered icon of the Virgin Mary. The painting is said to have miraculous powers and is venerated by Catholics and Orthodox Christians alike. We saw many believers and pilgrims inside the chapel. There was a mass going on. Mooie kapel in het oude Vilnius. De hoofdstad van Litouwen. Vilnius is nog niet ontdekt door het grote toerisme zoals ze zelf zeggen maar hanteren helaas wel de prijzen van de grote toeristensteden. In het oude centrum liegen de prijzen er niet om. Even er buiten eet en drink je al snel 100 tot 300 % goedkoper. Het collecteren bij Chapel of the Gates is een klein voorbeeld van uitpersen van de toerist.. er word gecollecteerd met een 20tal mensen. Bijgestaan met een paar nonnen en paters. Maar desalniettemin Vilnius is een schitterende stad met bijzonder mooie kapellen/kerken en...
