One of the most beautiful (in my opinion second, less pretty only than the old Žvėrynas bridge) and the newest bridge in central Vilnius over the Neris river. It connects Vilnius old town to Žirmūnai neighbourhood and is basically a gateway right into the heart of the Old Town as the National Museum of Lithuania, Gediminas Hill and the Cathedral are right there when you cross it. The bridge was named after Mindaugas, King of Lithuania, and was opened in 2003 during the celebrations of the 750th anniversary of Mindaugas' coronation. The bridge is 101 metres long. It itself is a beautiful sight to see. It also offers beautiful vistas to the Gediminas Hill & Tower, as well as to the river Neris. Read more#zirmunai and #snipiskes are on the opposite side of the river from the old town. Unlike the old town, it is a modern city with many high-rise buildings. It ’s so different that I ’m very surprised. There are many companies and luxury residential areas here. Local people seem to call this area New York, Lithuania. (They say they are so cute.)
