G'day, fellow marathon enthusiast! I had the absolute pleasure of participating in the Kuching Marathon 2023 held at the iconic Padang Merdeka in Kuching, Sarawak. It was an exhilarating event that left a lasting impression.

From the moment I arrived at Padang Merdeka, the atmosphere was electric. The energy and excitement were palpable as fellow runners, both local and international, gathered to tackle the challenge. The organizers did a fantastic job in ensuring a smooth registration process and providing ample support for participants.

The route was a delightful blend of urban landscapes and scenic beauty. As we pounded the pavement, we were treated to breathtaking views of Kuching's landmarks, including the majestic Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building and the picturesque waterfront. The well-planned course offered a mix of flat stretches and gentle inclines, keeping the run engaging and rewarding.

But it wasn't just the course that made the event special; it was the camaraderie and support from the local community. The cheers from spectators, the encouraging smiles from volunteers, and the lively performances along the route all contributed to an unforgettable experience. The spirit of Sarawak's hospitality shone brightly throughout the marathon.

Padang Merdeka itself provided an excellent venue for the event. Its spacious grounds offered ample space for participants to gather, warm up, and celebrate their achievements. The facilities were well-maintained, and the organizers ensured that runners were well-hydrated and fueled with refreshments along the way.

Padang Merdeka is a substantial locale to fit 30k-40k people and can reach up to 50k during grand state events such as the previous 60th Sarawak Independence Day, held on 22nd July 2023. Conserts can be held here, but crowd control can be difficult and burdensome. There are multiple parking space options within a 10-minute walk. The venue can be very busy during several crucial occasions; so, to save some valuable time, it is highly recommendable to stay the night nearby at hotels, such as but not limited to the Merdeka Palace (RM150-RM200 per night) and the Waterfront Hotel...
