Main temple of Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple in Jalan Kebun Bunga. Colloquially known as "Hilltop Indian Temple" by the locals. Very popular & crowded, swarmed with worshippers of all races (Indian, Chinese, Caucasian) during festivals especially Thaipusam. Need to ascend at least 513 steps to reach it. No wheelchair accessibility. Steps are wide & plenty of bench along the way if you wish to rest & takes a breather. A toilet is available halfway uphill too. Enjoy the view of Penang Tanjung Tokong area from the hilltop. Beautiful architecture, serene & divine. The temple is open daily & welcome everyone that walks up to its doorstep. At certain time especially in the early morning or late in the evening, the temple dogs may be on guard... They may bark & charging towards you but don't be afraid, they don't mean any harm, in fact, they are very friendly. There are monkeys on the temple ground too. Avoid feeding them to prevent them from being aggressive towards visitors.
My favourite place in the entire world. Whenever I come here and walk those 518 stairs up, sometimes I will be having something in mind that I would want to ask Him. But whenever I see Thaneermalaiyan, I always feel “Why ask when He knows what to give and not?”. And I will always be coming down from there, feeling better and assured, as if after visiting a good friend or a parent. Amazing management too, the dogs there looks pretty taken care off. And the thought to have a guard to take care of the parking so that only the devotees are allowed to park within the temple compounds to ease our prayers, it should be applauded. To many more months and years of seeing the temple prosper well.
Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple is a magnificent spiritual destination. The climb of approximately 530 steps is a symbolic journey, heightened by the temple's very positive vibration energy. The view from the top offers a scenic panorama, capturing the beauty of Gurney city. The temple's environment is both beautiful and calming, fostering a sense of peace. It's impressively clean and well-organized. Visiting in the morning enhanced the experience.one of the important temple celebrates thaipusam. Highly recommended for seekers of serenity and cultural richness 🙏
My fulfilling, my vows for Thaipusam religious journey from Kuala Lumpur. Been to this temple long time ago and when I returned again on the eve of Thaipusam, I realised that temple, has been given a face lift. Climbing up the steps was, trust me, quite a killer especially when weather was scorching hot, but I made it in one piece. Temple is just so spectacular and the surrounding really well maintained. By the way, nothing like Thaipusam in this temple and in Penang on the whole. Praise Lord Murugan.
The temple better knows as "Thaneer Malai Kovil" in Tamil where the direct meaning is "Waterfall Hill Temple". This is one of the old and famous temple in Penang. The main deity of this temple is Lord Murugan. The temple located beautifully on the top of the hill where devotees need to climb 513 stairs to reach the temple. The temple very famous for Thaipusam festival.
What a gorgeous and well-maintained temple! I hope more people will pay a visit. It’s not far from Penang Botanical Gardens. Get to the top of the stairs to see the pagoda and the view of the city. The prayer hall inside the pagoda was closed on the day we went but the colours were already worth the climb. You will also see some dogs, monkeys and goats.
