During its "heydays", shop lots are fully occupied, selling pirated DVDs to mobile phones, clothes and even a grand cinema, attracting people from all over Johor and across the causeway every weekend. Two and a half years after the pandemic, you have but a skeleton of the business left. Pirated DVD shops have all but closed down, the two fast food chains (McDonalds and KFC) decided to vacate as well and early 2022, Guardian pharmacy decided to move to nearby KSL mall for better business opportunities. What have you left in Holiday Plaza now? Two Chinese Herbal Shops A handful of mobile /mobile accessories shops Mobile repair shops Massage centre Toy shop .... thats about it. Parking below the basement is plentiful but other than hardcore regulars frequenting their chosen favorite outlets, it is beginning to look like a ghost mall next to the abandoned(closed down)...
Read moreMy last visit to Holiday Plaza was two and a half years ago when the MCO was just lifted. It was a ghost town then with McDonalds, KFC, Parkson department store and many other stores having closed due to COVID.
Returning today by chance illustrates how the mall has gradually recovered, although the three anchor tenants above are no longer around. Some of the stores I remember from before Covid have managed to pull through (DS Philatelic is sadly no more) - other businesses like the Vietnamese hairdressing salon on level 1 (RM 25 for a very detailed haircut over 20 to 30 minutes) have sprung up.
