Only Available on Mondays and Thursdays
This was a Very Bustling and Busy Pasar Pagi (Morning Market) right here in Taman Pelangi. Just the Sights and Sounds of this Open-Air Market can really evoke some Nice Nostalgic Memories that we can hardly see in Singapore anymore. There are also Many Varieties of Food Stalls available.
Pro Tip: If you want to take Grab, the Fare will cost about RM7.20 (S$2.10) from JBCC Komtar. This Pasar Pagi is not searchable on Grab's Map. I would recommend to select "Restoran Starfood Corner" like what I did or any other nearby Kopitiams.)
The Food Stalls that I visited:
爪爪香爪爪辣 Homemade Curry Chicken = RM10.00
Manned by a Friendly Stall Lady, her Main Selling Dish were Pots of Chicken Feet Stew. 🍲 But it was her Curry Chicken that lured me in because of how Beautiful it looked and how Deliciously Fragrant it smelt!
The Bowl of Curry Chicken is Very Hot and comes with 3 Large Pieces of Thigh Cuts and About Half a Thick Cut Potato. She also sells Rice to go with it so you can have it as an Option too if you want.
Protip: If you don't want any Rice, you can purchase Bread from some of the Other Bread Stalls available in this Pasar Pagi for you to dip into this Curry.
The Chicken is Super Tender and Juicy, Hot and Very Nice to Eat. Potatoes are Nice and Firm, yet also Soft to the Bite and are Soaked in that Lovely Curry. Of Course the Soul of the Dish is that Amazing Curry! Deeply Spiced, this is Chinese-Styled Curry and the Spice Aromatics is very Gao Gao type.
Just the Right Amount of Saltiness, Smooth and Creamy and Absolutely Not Watered Down. It's Spicy but also not Overly Spicy. To me, I can't help but feel that this tasted almost the same as my Own Grandmother's Type of Curry Chicken. 真的有婆婆的爱心味道.
At RM10.00 (S$2.90) this is Absolutely Worth the Money to Try. Excellent Curry! Don't take my word for it. I bought this Curry Chicken at around 7.00am and when I came back to the Same Stall later at 7.43am for a 2nd Helping, her Whole Pot of Curry Chicken is ALREADY COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!
From what I've seen, I think she's the only one selling Curry Chicken in this Pasar Pagi. It is available whenever this Pasar Pagi is open. So if you want to be able to taste this Curry Chicken, you must be here at least by 7,00am or risk having them Sold Out early.
Pumpkin 金瓜 Png Kueh = RM1.60 Per Piece
This Food Stall was run by a Very Friendly and Adorable Elderly Lady with a Very Jolly Demeanor. She specializes in Kuehs and Png Kueh is just one of them. They were not Freshly Hot however, and were more Cold already.
The Filling within is made out of Glutinous Rice with Bits of Mushroom but what I really like about this Png Kueh is the Nice Shallot Oil Taste when you bite into it which elevates the taste.
RM1.60 (S$0.50) is Worth the Money to give this a Try. The Elderly Lady herself is Adorably Cute! If you are ever here in this Pasar Pagi, why not come swing by her Food Stall and support her.
Apam Balik (Small) = RM1.40 Per Piece / RM4.00 for 3 Pieces
Also known as "Min Jiang Kueh" 曼煎粿 in Singapore, this was a Stall run by 2 Young Friendly Chaps that I just randomly felt like eating, so I decided to give it a try.
Even for the Small Size I bought, the Amount of Peanut was Generous and I felt they were Ground More Finely than the ones we usually have in Singapore. The Whole Thing was not too Sweet and also had a Nice Undercurrent of Saltiness. Skin was Crispy when eaten Fresh. RM1.40 (S$0.40) is worth the money to give this a try. This is a Nice Tasting Apam Balik.
