It was around Sept-Nov 2018. A Chinese grab driver told us to try JB's specialty kway teow kia. As a non Chinese speaker (and reader) we got soooooooo confused when he showed us (many times) those Chinese characters saying "kway teow kia" each time we passed thtough the restos. tried to remember them but.. nope..nothing inside my head. So we asked our next driver and got confused together because apparently this guy didn't know much abt the dish. Too sad. Then we tried to google with a very minimum infos..and I didn't even know how to spell it. But somehow found something. So we drove to where the gps took us and...nothing there. Sooo..we decided to take our walk from around Jl. Abiat..at 9/10 p.m., some 30 minutes walk..and we saw Hi Wan. Still not sure if that's the place. Moved closer and saw something noodle-like..so we asked the staff. With tooooo big languange barrier (they speak Chinese, we speak English)...finally decided to order 2 portions. Sooo glad that it's the one we're looking for!!! Clean but tasty broth, flat noodle made of (i think) rice flour, TASTY chili sauce!!!!!!! I had no idea what toppings I took, but one of em which looks like some meats wrapped in tofu skin TASTED HEAVENLY!!!!!! Surprisingly!!! We spent only MYR 15-17 for them..and 2 drinks. Which means @MYR 2 for kway teow, @MYR 1.5 for liang tea, and some MYR 8 for 2 toppings. ARGGHHHHH...I NEED TO MOVE TO JB A.S.A.P. and spend my pennies for Hi Wan for the rest of my life!!! PLEASE...DO...TRY...HI WAN! ❤️

Well known for their "kway teow kia" or kway chap in sg term, we decided on this place for dinner. We order most of their dishes they had on their menu. • Kway teow kia - Broth was flavourful, skinny kway teow were well cooked and soft 👍👍👍 • Braised pork trotters - Pork trotters were well braised, the sauce was nice and flavourful and the skin had the QQ bite. 😋😋😋 • Braised pork skin - Nicely Braised with the QQ texture 👍👍👍 • Pig's Ears - Great texture with the QQ 😋😋😋 texture. Sauce was flavourful too. • Pig Big intestine - Most important is that it is cleaned and washed properly, no smell and was very well braised. Very flavourful 👍👍👍 • Homemade tofu - Superb texture, very soft ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • Braised Duck - Duck was well braised and the sauce was very flavourful 😋😋😋😋😋 • Ngo Hiang - Skin was crispy when served, meat was flavourful. 👍👍👍 • Braised Tau Kee & Chicken egg - They tasted good as I believe the braising liquid is flavourful. 👍👍👍 Service was fast and efficient, we didn't have to wait long after placing our orders. Price is reasonable for the portions we were getting. Overall we enjoyed our meal here and will definitely come back again from time to time. 😋👍⭐️

This is one of the few famous kway teow kia shop in Johor Bahru. This kway teow kia is pretty similiar to the kway chap found in SG. This resturant is pretty huge and has many tables. I was give the menu and a ordering sheet, basically you ticked the item on the menu and passed it to their staff. Drinks on the menu is pretty limited Ordered fishcakes, braised beancurd, braised egg, fried meatroll and a bowl of kway teow kia. The meal cost less than MYR$20, wanted to ordered the braised duck but it was alr sold out. Food was okay, the most outstanding for me was the fried meat roll. The broth for the kway teow was more peppery than herbal. Overall, can eat but wished that there were more selection in terms of dishes.

Kway Teow - 3x (RM2.50) Kway Teow is not over cooked and the broths is thick and fragrant. Very unlike kwayteowkia elsewhere here in JB. While driving off realise this is a teochew style. No wonder it taste so much like my grandma (may her rest in peace) used to make. Really very Teochew style. People who are Teochew will know. Teochew dish does not looks heavy and seem kind of bland but the taste is very fragrant once it hit your mouth.

Lean Meat - 1x (RM6) Very soft and also soft to the chew. Not chewy at all. And it’s packed with a very light and sweet meat taste braised with the light sauce.

Pork Stomach This is braised to perfection as well. The braised has infused into the stomach when you first chew into it, you can taste the fragrant and saltiness of the braise. It’s not very chewy like the normal ones. You will be surprised that this is pork stomach because this is less chewy than normal pork stomach. Intended to order large intestine but they gave the wrong order. So we thought we would just eat it and not change. It’s fate that we got to taste it.

Large Intestine - 3x (RM6) Wanted the small intestine but it was sold out. Tried this and realise the smallest amount at RM6 weren’t enough to satisfy us so we ordered two more RM6 plates. No foul smell. Non at all and that’s a given in Malaysia given most stalls either has some light foul smell or they didn’t clean the internal properly therefore bringing a slight bitter taste on top of the foul smell. Please try it and you will know how good it is.

Ngoh Hiang - 1x This is a very common taste. Nothing to boast and nothing bad to comment. If you feel like having, safe to order.

Salted Veg - 1x This is not cooked properly. Please do not order. It’s not stewed to perfection. The vege is still crunchy and the salty and sour taste tasted like it was just boiled and not stewed like it’s supposed to. I didn’t like it as it’s like some Chinese pickled snacks that old people like my grandma likes to eat. So the sauce isn’t like stewed as it still tasted quite fresh to the tongue like sweet and salty. It’s not supposed to taste like that so this is a no for me.

Braised Egg/ Toufu/ Fish Cake - 1x (RM4) Nice egg that is braised to perfection. Nothing to boast and nothing bad about it. Same goes for the fish cake. Also, the toufu is very nice. Soft and slightly silky and it’s very slick still when you put it in your mouth. It’s a good combination for all these three ingredient. Only unfortunately it needs to be ordered individually.

Chilli (For your braised dish) The chilli is one of the best. It’s thick and it’s very fragrant. It has some slight lime kick to it that’s just nice and doesn’t make your tongue numb after having a lot of it. This is unlike most Malaysia chilli of this kind as most out there are watery and too sour without any kind of fragrant. The chilli has this fresh chilli green fresh kind of fragrance. It’s like they are fresh picked out of the garden if you know what I mean. Double thumps up.

Overall, this restaurant serves very good kwayteowkia. Even better than the others I have tasted a quarter of my life. I dare say this is the best so far. Except for the salted vege the rest are excellent. Please try this if you’re in for a good priced fuel, and some good food.

Best for me are: Braised Toufu/ Large Intestine/ Pork Stomach/ Lean Meat & Chilli. Anyway I don’t normally do pictures. You can search them from other user’s photos. You can read my comment for each dish I ordered. Anyway, for the large intestine etc you may wanna order a level from RM6 as it’s quite a small portion for two to eat. As for the eggs and other condiments liked side dish, it’s sold individually like 1 pc onward so order...
