Ghajnsielem Parish Church — Attraction in Għajnsielem

As befits a Maltese church, the parish church of Ghajnsielem rises above all the surrounding buildings. The church is one of the few neo-Gothic in Gozo, of course with the almost obligatory dome. According to the (typically Gozitan) anecdote, the pastor, struggling with a lack of money for the construction, asked the bishop if it was permissible to play the lottery. I love to visit this twentieth century church whenever I visit Gozo. It's the closest Parish Church to the harbour, so I love to walk from the boat on the Festa weekend. This coming one, in fact. At the moment the church looks ethereal and the statue of our Lady of Loreto so beautiful. Beautiful ....unlike other Gozitan churches, this place of worship is luminous, bright, welcoming. The simple and elegant beauty of the clean stonework enhances the interior artwork.
