In the square next to the Cathedral of Volta, opposite the city library and in the center of the Republic Square, stands a statue of Queen Victoria. The statue, made of white marble, depicts Queen Victoria seated and wearing a traditional Maltese scarf. It was placed in the square in 1891 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her reign.

The statue was erected in 1891 and is the work of the Sicilian sculptor Giuseppe Valenti.The statue and the pedestal are executed in white marble, while the base and steps are made from a grey stone. There are two coat-of-arms on the monument which are cast in bronze.
