Lovely meal at La Pira. All the tables are outside on the street side, and staff was friendly and service was efficient. We shared the calamari fritti for starters - fresh with a light batter and plenty of aioli, followed by Pulled Rabbit Rigatoni with a wine gravy and goats cheese shavings (the goats cheese wasn’t particularly strong, for anyone who hates goats cheese), and Sea Bass with a fish veloute and a bit of radish slices and beetroot, and some delicious roast potatoes with fennel seed. Delicious, though there could have been more sauce (the veloute) and more vegetables with the dish. Otherwise hard to fault, and a lovely evening in the warm evening. €65 for one starter, two mains and two drinks.

We had a reservation and dropped by here one night due to the high reviews. We ordered the fried cheese and Calamari as starters (reason for any stars) and also the Pulled Rabbit Rigatoni and the catch of the day, which was the Lampuki fish. The food took a long time arrive despite it not being very busy. When it arrived, the mains were very disappointing. The pasta had very little rabbit in it and the pasta itself was far too firm. I’d have settled for Al dente but this was almost like it had just started to cook before they pulled it. The Lampuki was lacking any real flavour and we had to spend a lot of time picking out the loads of tiny bones out ourselves. This place is very overrated and we didn’t enjoy the mains or the long wait to receive them. The only reason for any stars is because the fried cheese and calamari were very good.

The food was pretty great with some unique and genuinely enjoyable flavours. We enjoyed all of our meals. The service was passable, though one waitress could not explain how the fish of the day is made (or tell us what kind of fish it is exactly), and another waiter put the wrong meal in front of me and when I said "that is not my dish, sorry" he just responded "okay". So perhaps, despite most people in Malta speaking English fluently, there is a barrier in communication here - which is unfortunate for a busy high street restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant for an evening meal, but the tables are located in the middle of the street so if it gets busy it is a little loud/uncomfortable.

The food at La Pira was exceptional! I had dinner twice and everytime has been delicious. I was actually annoyed with myself I couldn't come here to have my last dinner before I flew back home. I will dream of those calamari fritti for long time. I had those pink ravioli (I can't remember the name!), the filling was so tender that it felt like chewing butter. I would also recommend Pulled rabbit rigatoni, very tender meat and delicious condiments. The product quality is consistently outstanding, exceeding my expectations every time and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommended. I will definitely get back on my next trip to Valletta.

This was our first meal after arriving in Malta. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal of rabbit liver/truffle pasta (noodle), octopus stew and a starter with Maltese sausage. The location is central and was close to the hotel we chose to stay at. Service is friendly and reasonably paced. I would consider this pretty standard for level of service and was happy with it. Pricing is reasonable as well. We ate outside under their umbrella'd street seating and were quite happy with it. It is close to other restaurants so the atmosphere is busy and cozy but spacious enough that I didn't spend my time elbowing my neighbours. Would return and recommend.

Ordered “Calamari & Squid Ink Linguine”, came out just linguine with tomato based and calamari. When i asked whats the squid ink?!, they tried to explained that the inked was soaked into pasta! I’m not dumb tourist, squid ink will make your pasta black not red! 10 mins after that, one of the guy came to my table with a small bowl of “2 SQUID INK CRISPS” said that sorry we forgot about this garnish, this is the squid ink, For a €22 pasta they charged. At the end they removed my order from the bill, as they knew it was wrong and not what you expected. Its a nice gesture at the end. Before you order, read and ask them carefully!
