This is a place that I think everyone who comes to Puerto Vallarta should visit at least once if not everyday. It is what everyone expects the entire city to look like, yet this area is about the only colonia that really has the majority of white washed red tiled roofed casas lined along winding walkways and streets of cobblestone and gravel. At the base of the Gulch are dozens of excellent restaurants and cafes, art galleries, sheek shops, and trendy bistros. Further up the hill there is the calm and quiet of a sacred place making it the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the beautiful view of Old Town, the Sierra Madre, the Bay of Banderas, Los Arcos, and the Shrine and cathedral of Guadalupe only a few blocks down the hill. Don't forget to stop at Casa Kimberly and pay respects to the Queen of Hollywood, Elizabeth Taylor, who lived atop the gulch for years when she visited Puerto Vallarta. Casa Kimberly is now a five star boutique hotel offering 9 opulent ocean view suites decorated with the finest hand made furniture and accented with fresh flowers. A block away was Richard Burton's home and the bridge he built to hussle Liz between their houses in order to avoid the press. John Huston gave the house to Ms. Taylor as a gift after she discovered cockroaches in the hotel suite she was staying at during the filming of NIGHT OF THE IGUANA. Next door, stop and have a shot of tequila at Iguana where the view will blow you away at sunset. Iguana is becoming known as one of the best restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, and it's not that hard of a climb up the hill to enjoy the setting. I recommend visitors stay in the gulch for their selection of elegant small hotels and inns that put you within walking distance of everywhere you'll want to be anyway. Less than 4 blocks from Los Muertos Beach and about the same to the two farmer's markets that is...

You want a treat? Walk yourself through this historic area. The beautiful stone walls and multi level homes are lovely. You want a challenge? Try driving your car through it. Lots of narrow streets with cars parked all over. At times you have whole inches to spare.
This is some of the best walking in the city. Once you're done, down the bridge to the Cuale Park to Las Brasas for a...
