On arrival the hotel attempted to charge me again although I had pre-paid for 6 nights. Showing proof of payment, I was told they would have to verify with Booking. Then, I was charged a “deposit” of over $2,000 MX. Which would be refunded on check out. I did not receive a refund. I left the room as I found it. I did not even use their products. It is an insult to assume a guest will damage or steal. I have never had to pay a deposit before at any hotel, especially one that caters to a more high end clientele. Staff also informed me that a person spent a day in my room. I went to see what was missing, nothing. So on asking for further details they said it might be a mistake. This was very disturbing and I considered finding another hotel for the remainder of my stay. If the staff saw someone enter my room and did nothing, safety is a big concern. The hotel advertises a personal safe for your belongings. There was no safe. The “garden” the hotel promoted for my room was a gravel outdoor area 4ft x 12ft. Just large enough for 3 adults to stand in. Given the hotel is in a residential area, children playing and screaming keeps noise at a maximum during the day, dogs barking all night. Even though the walls are concrete, the front door intensifies sound and has gaps enough that one could look into your room. If that wasn’t bad enough, I was put into a room with construction next door. Any other hotel management would have put a guest elsewhere, most of the other rooms were vacant. So be aware of hidden charges. Keep an eye out for intruders. Keep in mind things may not be as advertised. The walkways are a tripping hazard.

We found hotel unknown through booking when we were planning our trip to Merida. We decided to try something new and we were very happy. The hotel is a short walk from the main center, or just a 5-minute taxi/Uber ride. The hotel is brand new, very clean and really unique. The rooms are comfy, spacious and beds are large and comfy. The one part of my experience was the staff at Hotel Unknown. I would like to thank the following people for making our stay absolutely exceptional: Melly and German from the front desk, always helpful and attentive. Hernan, our server and bartender several times was absolutely wonderful. I also want to specially mention people like Yasmin and Nadia for their excellent customer service. I would stay here again, absolutely and I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Merida.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Food in the cantina is surprisingly good! The bar has some amazing cócteles (try the house cocktail!). It is centrally located to the tourist trap area (1000+ mxn is too much for a hammock) and the downtown area. There are some things I could split a hair with but frankly I liked this hotel and has made my stay better. Even helped us secure rentals. The rooms are spacious and has an ac unit that keeps the area cool in November. I reckon, for some, in high summer heat the ac unit might keep only the bedroom room cool but you're in Mexico and its 40+. If you wanted absolutely cold rooms you would have gone to a resort and missed being in the city. There is a glass bottle of potable water in the room and a container to have more near the front desk. Is it plastic bottles water? No, but now you're splitting hairs and killing dolphins. Continental breakfast is seasonal fruit with small yogurt and pre toasted bread and jam (I, as someone who doesn't like jam liked it). Some things to note would be that the shower water is cold (probably pretty nice in summer though) and the floors may be dusty/dirty (socks or slippers) if you do not ask for them to be cleaned...

We stayed in room 2 for 3 weeks. The small garden and dip pool were my favorite (take flip flops to walk on gravel). The wifi was strong and steady (actually better than at home). The rooms were modern, clean and spacious.|Breakfast was fresh (fruit plate with yogurt and ganola), the coffee was hot, large and American style. We had two eggs and bacon ( could have ham or mushrooms) each morning. A great start to the day. |The staff are amazing. Well trained and always ready to help with any request. (Special mention to Jose in the restaurant).|The location is perfect for Santaigo Square with its market. ( It's an extra 20 minute walk to the Centro). There are some good restaurants within a few blocks (Johannes, Cafe de Montejo) and Aki Express for water, food, wine, beer. Be sure to visit Placer and Delirio for scrumptious bake goods and specialty coffee, on Calle 59 across from the Oxxo. The area is safe and very walkable, but be careful on the uneven sidewalks. |The only thing missing that would have made everything perfect was a small fridge to keep...
