Sankata has been one of the holiest shrines at the southern side of New Road, Kathmandu. This temple is mainly crowded on Saturdays. A visit to the temple is believed to help one to get rid of obstacles in life. It is believed that one visiting with devotion gets happiness in life. One has to climb a stair to see the man idol of Sankata and there are other shrines at the ground floor and within the area. Parking is full on Saturdays and one can lit candle commonly in a fixed area as well

Sankata Temple, located in the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal, is one of the most revered shrines in the city, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Sankata. This temple holds significant religious importance, especially among the local Newar community, and draws numerous devotees who seek blessings and relief from problems and obstacles, as the name "Sankata" suggests.

The temple's exact origins are somewhat shrouded in mystery, but it is believed to have been constructed during the medieval period, reflecting the traditional Newar architectural style. The goddess Sankata is considered a fierce manifestation of Goddess Durga, known for her power to eliminate sorrows and difficulties from the lives of her devotees. The deity is depicted in a fearsome form, often adorned with weapons and ornaments symbolizing her protective and combative nature.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Sankata Temple is its role in the lives of the locals. Every Saturday, which is considered an auspicious day for the goddess, the temple becomes a bustling hub of activity. Devotees from various parts of the city and beyond visit the shrine to offer prayers, light oil lamps, and present offerings such as flowers, fruits, and sweets. The temple complex, though not very large, exudes an aura of spirituality and devotion, amplified by the continuous chanting of hymns and ringing of bells.

The Sankata Temple also plays a vital role in the cultural fabric of Kathmandu. During major Hindu festivals like Dashain and Navaratri, the temple sees a surge in the number of visitors, and special rituals are performed to honor the goddess. These festivals are marked by elaborate ceremonies, including the recitation of sacred texts, offerings of animal sacrifices, and the organization of fairs that attract large crowds.

Beyond its religious significance, the temple is an excellent representation of Nepalese art and architecture. The intricate wood carvings, the pagoda-style roof, and the beautifully crafted idols inside the temple highlight the craftsmanship of the Newar artisans. The temple's preservation and the continuous flow of devotees underscore the enduring faith and traditions that have been passed down through generations.

In summary, the Sankata Temple is not just a place of worship but a cultural landmark that embodies the religious fervor, artistic heritage, and communal harmony of Kathmandu. Its enduring appeal lies in its ability to provide solace and strength to those who seek divine intervention in their lives, making it a cherished spiritual sanctuary in the...
