"Ratna Park, located in the bustling heart of Kathmandu, serves as a serene oasis amidst the city's vibrant and chaotic energy. This historic park, named after Queen Ratna, has been a beloved green space for locals and visitors alike, offering a refreshing escape from the urban sprawl. The park’s design reflects a careful balance between natural beauty and urban functionality. Lush lawns and well-maintained flower beds provide a calming environment, perfect for leisurely strolls or moments of quiet reflection. The mature trees that dot the landscape offer ample shade, making it an ideal spot to relax, especially during Kathmandu’s warmer months. In recent years, Ratna Park has undergone significant renovations, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and its facilities. The addition of walking paths, benches, and proper lighting has made the park more accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages. The cleanliness and upkeep are commendable, reflecting the city's efforts to preserve this cherished space. While the park itself is a tranquil haven, its location makes it a convenient stop for those exploring Kathmandu. Situated near several key landmarks, including Durbar Square and the bustling shopping areas of New Road, Ratna Park serves as a perfect resting point during a day of sightseeing. The park is also a cultural crossroads, where you can observe the daily lives of Kathmandu’s residents. From elderly locals practicing yoga to children playing and couples enjoying a peaceful moment together, the park is a microcosm of the city’s vibrant community life. One of Ratna Park’s unique features is its proximity to Kathmandu’s public transport hub. This makes it an easily accessible destination, whether you're traveling by bus, taxi, or even on foot from nearby attractions. However, like many urban parks, Ratna Park is not without its challenges. At peak times, it can become quite crowded, and the presence of street vendors and hawkers, while adding to the local flavor, can sometimes detract from the park’s tranquil atmosphere. In conclusion, Ratna Park is a vital green lung in the heart of Kathmandu, offering a blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and urban convenience. It is a must-visit for anyone seeking a moment of peace amid the city’s hustle and bustle, as well as those interested in experiencing a slice of everyday life...

Ratna Park in Kathmandu

Ratna Park is one of the most well-known public parks in Kathmandu, Nepal. Situated at the heart of the capital city, between the old royal palace and the busy commercial area of New Road, the park has long served as a central landmark and recreational space. It was established in the early 1960s and named after Queen Ratna, the second wife of King Mahendra. Since then, Ratna Park has remained an iconic spot in Kathmandu, frequented by people from all walks of life.

The park holds both historical and social importance. During earlier decades, when modern recreational facilities were scarce, Ratna Park was one of the very few places where families, friends, and couples could gather for leisure. Its greenery, walking paths, and benches provided a refreshing environment in the middle of a fast-growing city. Even today, despite urban crowding and pollution, the park continues to be a retreat where people can relax, meet, and enjoy moments of calm away from traffic and noise.

Ratna Park also carries symbolic value in Kathmandu’s urban landscape. It serves as a meeting point for travelers and locals due to its central location and connectivity with major roads leading to Sundhara, Durbar Marg, and Jamal. Many public vehicles also use Ratna Park as a hub, making it a familiar reference point for anyone navigating the city.

In recent years, efforts have been made to renovate and preserve the park, ensuring that it remains relevant for newer generations. The greenery and open space of Ratna Park not only provide recreational value but also help maintain ecological balance in the dense city.

Overall, Ratna Park is more than just a garden; it is a cultural and social landmark that reflects Kathmandu’s urban growth while continuing to offer a space for relaxation, connection, and...

Exploring Ratna Park in Kathmandu was an adventure filled with vibrant sights and cultural immersion. As I entered the park, I was immediately greeted by the lively atmosphere, with families enjoying picnics, children playing games, and vendors selling snacks and souvenirs.

Walking through the park, I was struck by the juxtaposition of modernity and tradition. The park's lush greenery and majestic trees provided a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, while the surrounding skyscrapers served as a reminder of Kathmandu's ever-evolving landscape.

One of the highlights of my visit was observing the local wildlife, particularly the pigeons that flock to the park in abundance. Watching them flutter and coo amidst the backdrop of ancient temples and statues was a surreal experience, reminding me of the harmonious coexistence of nature and urbanity in Kathmandu.

Exploring the park's various attractions, including the iconic Ratna Mandir and the tranquil ponds dotted throughout the area, offered a glimpse into Kathmandu's rich history and cultural heritage. I was particularly captivated by the intricate architecture of the mandir and the sense of reverence it evoked among visitors.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the park, I found a quiet spot to sit and reflect on the day's adventures. Surrounded by the sounds of laughter and conversation, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunity to immerse myself in Kathmandu's vibrant culture and natural beauty.

In conclusion, visiting Ratna Park was a memorable experience that allowed me to connect with the heart and soul of Kathmandu. From the bustling energy of the city to the tranquil oasis of the park, it was a journey filled with discovery and wonder that will stay with me for...

The Park was built at the investment of Rs 20 million of Kathmandu Metropolis and Rs 40 million of Madhyapur Thimi municipality under the Town-Town Collaboration Programme. On the occasion of Shankhadhar Day, Kathmandu metropolis mayor Bidya Sundhar Shakya inaugurated the park amidst a programme on Sunday. He shared the metropolis has been providing support to 12 municipalities of the Valley for the construction of religious and tourism parks as well as the multi-purpose parks. 'Kathmandu metropolis is the oldest and the most resourceful cultural town. It also has the obligation to help adjoining municipalities in their bid to construct public places. Construction of Sankhadhar Park was a manifestation of town-town collaboration', mayor Shakya added. Also speaking on the occasion, Madhyapurthimi municipality Mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha said, 'We had approved a master plan with a total budget of Rs 130 million for the park construction'. The first phase of its construction has been finalized and remaining portion has been planned for the next tenure, Shrestha said, expressing his confidence that the KIMC would extend further financial support in the upcoming year to complete the backlog of construction works. The park stretched over the area of 13 ropani has water fountain, stone-carved step, hanging garden, stone spout, MP theatre and green garden. According to the master plan, Green Park, children park, traditional hall, statue of Shankhadhar Sakhwa, big conge, rock climbing and rope climbing spots are to be constructed in remaining five ropanis of land. At the programme, Kathmandu metropolis Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi Shrestha said the metropolitan city has emphatically collaborated for the preservation of culture and heritage.

It was earlier known as Ratna Park. It was named after then queen Ratna Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah. And it was built by then king Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah. This park is situated in the middle of the city and it has a variety of flowers from all seasons which brings people closer to nature. There are plenty of benches to take a rest on when someone is tired from observing the park. This park is connected to almost every location of the city via bus, taxi and micro bus. There is a nominal fee for the tickets to enter the park. It is a very nice and beautifully decorated park. There are swings, slides and see-shaw designed for the children to enjoy and spend the holidays. Many trees are there.

🌳Escape the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu and immerse yourself in the serenity of Shankhadhar Park. Nestled in the heart of the city, this picturesque park is a welcome retreat for those seeking a peaceful escape✨. The park's well-maintained grounds and abundance of seating areas make it the perfect destination for a relaxing day out with your loved ones. 😌 🛝The park's child play area, complete with swings and slides, is perfect for families with young children. Though there is an entry fee, the stunning scenic beauty and child-friendly amenities make it well worth the cost. It would be even better if the park provided charging points for electronic devices. 💙
