Thought we would give this a try after walking around Zeedijk for a while looking for someone to eat. It looked relatively quiet, menus looked good and not too expensive. We were seated straight away with menus. Order was taken quickly for food and drink. We opted for a small rijsttafel. Food arrived quickly and piping hot. We also had a little visitor in the form of a black and white cat come and sit near us, it was very friendly and didn't harrass us although we both made a fuss of it. Food was good however I wasn't keen on some of it and think next time we would just choose single dishes. Once finished the bill was presented to us. There was very little interaction with the staff, they seemed to just want you to eat and go and didn't go out of their way to see if everything was okay but this seems to be the norm in Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam. This didn't bother us as we got everything we wanted and desert was part of the rijsttafel order so other than possibly wanting another drink we had no need to really speak to them again. We would visit again as the food was very good, hot and service was prompt and we liked having the cat around, made it feel more homely.

I would stay away from this restaurant until the service is improved. This restaurant has probably the worst and most rude service personal I’ve encountered. First when we entered we were told to come back in 30 min because the personal was busy chatting and recording TikTok videos. This was around 16:00-17:00 with customers already present and eating, so not really closed but just taking a break I guess? I’ve never encountered such a thing at a restaurant before. The attitude and service was then horrible and really ignorant/careless once we came back a bit later. The place is really cramped and people are seated super close to each other without much space. Food was pretty good, we ordered a duck and a beef dish. The duck dish was really tasty with a lot of sichuan pepper numbing and the water boiled beef (hot pot I think they called it) was decent, though nothing special (missing the dried chili peppers on top to be properly authentic). All in all not a great experience, pretty good food ruined by horrible service sadly.

On the evening I visited this restaurant the crowd was a mixture of locals and Chinese, a clear indication that the Dutch are getting familiar (and liking) Sichuan cuisine! I've seen this trend in Rotterdam too. Although I'm an ethnic Hakka and our cuisine tends to be mild and sweet, I absolutely am hooked on Sichuan food and this restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam's Chinatown does not disappoint. The menu is extensive and exciting, and you may need some time to peruse the thick menu (with lovely photos!). The fried spareribs were crispy and juicy and the dipping sauce hot and sour. The Chengdu duck was phenomenal. My dinner came to €30 including a pot of excellent jasmine tea. Definitely excellent value for money. In spite of the crowd the service was excellent and super friendly. Highly recommended! PS: there are two other locations of China Sichuan in the city and I'll definitely visit them soon.

Ordered takeout from China Sichuan Restaurant and it was delightful. Authentic, flavoursome and all round hit the spot type vibes.

Fish fillet in chilli oil (forgot the name but it's the biggest, most exxy €€€ fish dish on the menu - came recommended by the staff) is hands down the best dish we ordered, the fish is cooked to perfection - tender and melt in your mouth and the flavours were well balanced. If anything, it could do with a little more Sichuan peppercorns Sichuan special potato beef: was tasty, very similar flavours to the fish, but still delicious perfect balance of chilli without numbing your taste buds Chinese ear mushroom salad: perfect dish to offset the richness and spice of the other dishes. A balance of sweet, sour and dare I say spice which has an almost cooling effect after all the sichuan chillies attacking the taste buds. Won Ton noodle soup: a little random addition but a nice neutral flavour without spice to bring your taste buds back down to earth 😊 cumin lamb: was ok, good level of cumin, however the cumin needed to be more infused into the lamb. I prefer cumin lamb grilled on charcoals, like street food in China so I probably won't get this again.

We had leftovers for a couple meals to follow, and the flavours got tastier over time. Definitely a winning take out meal.

Looking forward to having a dine-in experience here again soon to taste the flavours straight off the stove or trying the hot pot and get the whole dining experience -...

This place was a recommendation by a friend from the Sichuan region, which means that the friends who love this heat in their food were very happy. To the brink of tears, as they might have underestimated how spicy this level of spicy is.

The menu was so big it was almost disorienting. It's great that there is such a large selection, including a large selection of food that wouldn't set me on fire, but after looking through page after page of stuff to eat we couldn't make a choice and had to tell the waitress about four times to come back "in a bit". Eventually we settled om some dishes that were of all our likings. The food was incredible, very tasty and very filling for an extremely reasonable price. And as we mentioned that we had someone with us who's birthday was that day, joking that they should "just surprise him" with the food they would serve (probably best that they didn't, with him not eating certain stuff due to allergies), the birthday-boy even got some icecream with sparkles on the house which was very kind and appreciated.

While we loved the meal and will be back for this, we did run into a small issue with the attitude of some of the staff. I know Dutch customers as well as tourists can be rude, but that doesn't mean I have to feel practically unwelcome and as if I'm a disturbance for just ordering food. Or even for walking through the door. Other staff members made up for it by joking and being kind, but still. The feeling lingered a bit...
