The Monument of Jewish Resistance (Monument vor Joods verzet) is situated at the corner of Amstel and Zwanenburgwal in the city centre. It serves as a memory of the Jewish members of the resistance who lost their lives during WWII. This is the work of Belgian sculptor Josef Glatt (1988) and is in the manner of traditional Jewish tombstones. It is a metre tall granite column which includes both Hebrew and Dutch engravings. It is a touch memorial and reminder of the tragedies of war. You can combine with a quick visit to the Spinoza Monument just 20-30 metres away.
TRAVELLING {, TO BE PRECISE}TRAVELLING {, TO BE PRECISE}
The text on the front side translates as "In remembrance of the resistance of Jewish citizens fallen in 1940-1945. 5700-5705". The other text is biblical ("Were my eyes a source of tears, I would cry day and night for the fallen warriors of my beloveth people. Jer. 8, 23"). A part of town you want to walk/cycle, as the canal views are good here, there's plenty of the most beautiful bridges, the Spinoza Monument, the Opera/Ballet, etc..

Before the monument caught my eye, I was drawn to themajestic river and the beautiful sky of Amsterdam, captivated by the city’s serene and pleasant nature (just look at the photo). I think this monument would be better placed somewhere it could attract more attention to itself.
