Old Dutch Windmill — Attraction in Aruba

We had four in our group. Three got the chicken schnitzel with the mushroom sauce and the cream of mushroom soup. They all enjoyed it and felt that the portion was enough or too much. I got the vegetarian masala which had a mild kick to it and the spices were wonderful and the portion was hearty. I should let you know I am VERY sensitive to spice. Of note the mushroom sauce and the cream of mushroom soup seem to be the same. My husband was ready to order extra soup to go because he liked it so much.

Normally I would skip dessert but their desserts come in shot glasses so it was just enough to have a sweet treat after dessert. We got three ice creams and a creme brulee. All were delicious. The ice cream is made on site by Fred and it was such a light but creamy mixture. The flavors tonight were a vanilla/chocolate mix and a vanilla with stroopwaffle mixed in. The stroopwaffle ice cream came with two mini cookies on the side. The creme brulee was also delicious with a perfect small crunchy top. Sorry about the picture of these, we all ate them quickly and I forgot to get a picture before we ate them. I included the picture so you can appreciate their perfect size. 😬

I didn't see any menu photos so I took photos of the whole menu. We were told the menu is generally the same but they do occasionally add or take things off the menu.

The service was spectacular. They were plenty busy tonight but we found that whenever we needed a refill or were ready for the next part of our meal someone was always there to help. It seems like the service is a team effort as several...

Als je aan komt lopen om de kaart buiten te lezen komt de bediening als bijen op de honing op je afgerend. Dan geef je aan we kijken even op ons gemak. Oké en de dame loopt terug, terwijl er direct een andere dame komt en vertelt hoe heerlijk de Hollandse pannenkoekjes zijn. Als we ergens en hekel aan hebben is dat men in wat voor winkel ook personeel direct bij je staat of dat ze betaald worden als ze verkopen. Uiteindelijk naar binnen en weer rennen ze naar je toe dat je kan zitten waar je wil. Direct de kaart en welke thee of koffie we willen. Née we wil cola zero. Hum, dat kan ook is de reactie. En of we weten welke pannenkoeken we willen. Hadden we aangegeven dat we ook pannenkoeken willen eten om 11:00 uur AM? Uiteindelijk twee pannenkoeken besteld. Tien ze werden neergezet de vraag; moet u er slagroom op? Nee dat hoeft niet. Mevrouw loopt weg met een gezicht van….. we hadden nog beide een half glas vol cola en een dame komt naar ons toe of we nog iets wensen. Wij; kijk wijzend naar de glazen, we hebben nog. Er was één airco, maar was voor de meneer achter de bar. Wij moesten het doe in de molen met molentjes aan het plafond die alleen de warmte verplaatst. Ons laatste slokje was op en zonder vragen werd er een klein klompje voor ons neergezet met de rekening. Er was voldoende plaats maar we moesten waarschijnlijk toch de deur uit. We hebben dit allemaal duidelijk gemaakt aan de dame waarop het antwoord kwam dat dit de normaalste zaak was op Aruba en dat dit werd opgedrongen door de bazin daar in het rode shirt. En dat Amerikanen dit graag willen. ( ze wisten dat wij Hollanders waren. Wij gaven aan dat we vele malen op Aruba komen omdat onze enige zoon met zijn gezin hier woonachtig is en dat dit niet de normaalste zaak is op Aruba. Misschien dat er daarom maar één grote tafel zat net Chinezen en de zaak verder leeg was. Behalve de twee heren die keken hoe en waar ze het beste een airco kunnen plaatsen.

Tevens uitkijken voor de poes. Die heeft haast dezelfde kleur als de tegels als je van buiten het donkere restaurant in loopt. Hij ligt heerlijk in het midden van de ingang. De bezorger van de sterke drank stond op hem terwijl hij zijn volle steekwagen achteruit lopend de zaak binnen bracht. De dames konden het dan ook niet laten om onder elkaar dit te delen op een klank zodat wij het hoorden. Ons zien ze in ieder geval niet meer en gaan naar onze bekende zaakjes in en...

Really adorable place! Fred and Diane’s restaurant was really good. The drunkin chicken was really delicious but the steak was very tough and hard to chew. Upstairs is a bar where the views (outside on the deck area) are spectacular especially at sunset. Very windy though (I wore shorts under my dress).
