I am not a local and wanted to give this reserve a go for my morning walk a change of scenery from where I’m from. We had a big group this morning and it was such a shame the tracks were closed so the walk was only 40 or so mins. Beautiful views of the greenery and how nice nature is. Loved the board walk just not long enough. It’s good to go in the early morning because if it’s busy the boardwalk can be congested. Always love the morning hellos to other walkers so it’s a really nice vibe. There is a cafe located 5mins drive or a 17min walk nearby called Moreno so that was lovely to pop into after our morning walk. If the other tracks were open it would have made our morning walk and travel more worth it otherwise 40mins is decent for a beginner which we are more advanced and needed a bigger challenge for the morning. Check it out yourself and hopefully the other tracks are open when you go by checking the website which I...

The 18m high bridge was erected to keep people off the kauri tree roots and to prevent kaurie die back 👌 There is also a shoe 👞 👟 cleaning station at each entrance.
There is an entrance from Kauri Glen Road, which is a steep gravel path hike back 😩 or another entrance from Tui Glen Road 🚶♂️
The 80m bridge is between these entrances.

Read moreIt was a great short walk that has just reopened with the new Kauri Glen aerial walkway in the middle. From this vantage point, you can see across the large kauri tree canopy to the stream floor below. This is home to many New Zealand native birds and plants. This is an easy way to be at one in this beautiful environment. There are many entry points the easiest is from Kauri Glen road, park Avenue or Tui Glen roads. These all have a mixture of street parking. From these locations is a smooth, fine gravel chip pathway that leads onto a new timber walkway that journeys towards the new aerial walkway and viewing points. The tracks are well marked, so it is easy to travel on a loop around the reserve or access other side roads that all lead in or out of...
