We decided to try out The Good Home Birkenhead after having a number of great experiences at The Good Home in My Eden. We certainly were not greeted with the same level of warmth and friendly customer service that we always find at Mt Eden, the waitresses stood around chatting as we waited to be shown to a table, my husband had to interupt them and ask for service. After being shown to the table our kids were given a coloring page and pens to keep them entertained which was great.
We decided on our order quickly and we sat waiting as the waitress cleaned tables (It was very quiet and there was no urgency for tables to be cleaned), again my husband had to ask to be served. We hadn't even been offered the opportunity to order drinks.
The menu catered for everyone nicely and adapting a meal to suit my dietary requirements was no problem at all.
My husband's meal arrived after we had all finished our mains. Luckily the kids were having a sundae or it would have been awkward entertaining 3 kids as he finished his dinner.
The kids really enjoyed their meals and ours were fine.
Overall, not a bad experience but we certainly won't be returning considering the great service and excellent food we can find elsewhere for...
Read moreOur recent dinner at The Good Home in Birkenhead was an experience that left us with mixed feelings.
We were greeted by a casual atmosphere that set the stage. We ordered a round of beers, Each of us opted for a different dish. The SATAY BEEF SALAD, boasting marinated seared beef strips, crispy noodles, cabbage, carrot, cucumber, and homemade satay dressing, was a flavorful start. The FISH & CHIP SANDO, featuring tempura battered fish, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, crispy potato skins, and dill aioli on toasted ciabatta, added an interesting twist. Lastly; the classic BEER BATTERED FISH & CHIPS and the hearty LOADED dish with bacon, mozzarella, sour cream, and sweet chilli.
While all the dishes were deemed okay, the clear standout was the Fish and Chips entree. The tempura battered fresh fish, was perfectly executed, paired wonderfully with the crispy french fries.
Despite an average overall impression of the dinner, the laid-back atmosphere, beer selection; The Good Home a viable choice for a very casual evening out...
Read moreI had read the reviews and was excited to try this place and being a local thought it would be great to support local businesses. The reason for the 1 Star, would be due to poor service. We entered the premises and sat a table with our Vaccine pass ready to scan to enjoy the evening. The woman that served us didn't say hello or welcomed us but rudely asked for our vaccine pass and proceeded to tell us off for entering the back door. Keep in mind there were no signage anywhere on the doors that instructed patrons that they must enter the front door and wait to be seated. We're very understanding to the current circumstances and obligations but as paying customer, I believe a little friendly attitude keeps the patrons coming back.
Food and Drinks were decent and the other staff member was pleasant but due the experience we'll never be...
