My favourite suggestion when visiting Wellington. It’s not a hike, more of a walk but is a good workout Once you reach the summit/too. I suggest wearing trainers but to be honest I have done it in jandals once unexpectedly strolling up! It takes 1hour return. You can get the bus to Khandallah Village or train to Khandallah station and the trailhead is five minute walk from there, past Khandallah pool and park. I highly recommend doing this for all visitors to Wellington. On a clear sunny day you can get a beautiful view of all of Wellington region out to the Hutt Valley and to Porirua, you fan also see the South Island. You may sometimes find cows up here too, and you can take your dog up! Beautiful memorial benches are placed and a table if you would like to picnic! There is also a Trig further back if you walk North slightly for a different view of Ohariu Valley and Makara. You can carry on North or West to do the Northern Walkway which is along the ridegline. Anybody can do this walk,...

One of the most beautiful walks in the city. The highest point of the Wellington region, Mount Kaukau is easily accessible from here. The walk is easy to normal in terms of gradient. Wooden steps are provided where necessary. Otherwise the track is the usual one. It can be muddy and a bit slippery after a downpour. The view from the top is totally worth the effort to reach there. 360 degree views to the surroundings from the top make it even more unique. The track ahead connects the Colonial Knob Walkway in Porirua, which is ideal for experienced hikers. A highly recommended activity...

On a great day, one of the easy-moderate walks/hikes. Located within one of the best suburbs in the town - Khandallah, this summit hike offer a walk with varying difficulty.

I started from the Simla Crescent train station, in about 45 min or so reached the summit. There are so many more paths to go on from here. I looped back to Khandallah Swimming Pool following signs for Woodman Cote Road. All in all it took me about 1:30-45 min to be back to the starting point.

In my next hike, I’m keen to walk on Old Bach, Johnsonville track. I’ll make it a point to go on Skyline...

I love this walk. It has a lot of beautiful trees and quite relaxing with native birds tweeting away. It is constantly uphill, a lot of steps. There are benches along the way for a break. It can get muddy if it rains. If you’re active and have alot of energy, you could reach the top in 30mins. There are also loop walks, just follow clark street signs back to simla crescent.
