Where do i start.......I haven't had a worse experience in Wellington since I've been here (around 10 years).

We ordered the tools down platter, beef tataki and chicken and chips kids meal with a strawberry sundae.

$65 platter had 3 small ribs, fried chicken, squid rings, 2 bits of bread, mac cheese sticks, seared corn ribs (corn on the cob cut in 4). Right, everything was cold. Chewy over cooked squid. Chicken was so over cooked it was brown and hard. Ribs tasted boiled old and off. Mac cheese bites were actually ok tasting but cold. Toasted bread was cold. It was so bad we couldn't order anything else for the fear of getting sick. When it was served to us, the waitstaff dropped the sauce off it onto the table then actually asked if we wanted it replaced (unbelievably). The sauce was so hard it didn't even spill. Embarrassing all effort. Worst I've had in Wellington.

$25 Beef tataki: citrus dressing, truffle mayo, crispy potato straws. The beef was way over cooked, thick cut and Grey (it says thin cut lightly seared beef). It was nasty and also looked old and boiled. Everything else listed on this plate was bad. Again, worst in Wellington.

$15 chicken and chips. These were actually really good, and came out at least 10mins after the platter (this is a small plate of chips and fried chicken, again embarrassing it wasn't out at the same time as the platter). The strawberry sundae was in a water tumbler.

Just a complete shambles. The wait staff returned to ask how everything was 20mins I to the meal that we didn't touch much of, he was told to get rid of all of it and that it was the worst we've ever had. Now, he returned 10 mins later and asked if we wanted to order anything else which got a swift no way in reply.

We only go an apology after going up to settle the bill and still got charged $42. They took 2 drinks off (coffee and wine) and the beef starter. Again what an absolute mockery for customer service and respect.

I will never recommend this place to anyone who actually likes good food.

Disappointed is an understatement. Precooked food for fast service...

Came for the Burger Wellington burger and was actually surprised how decent it was. The problem for us came when we went to pay the bill. After about 16 burgers I had grown tired of fries and chips and had requested they substitute the fries for the mashed potatoes (which are the same price a la carte on the menu). The server had said there would be a "small charge" for it and I was happy to do so figuring it to be $1-2. They ended up charging $8 for it which was the same price as getting an actual side of the mash. When I explained that, a different server was very uncharitable with us and declared that the burger only comes with a small side of fries (it actually comes in a metal pail). So essentially then I was charged for a full side separately without being told and then had my fries basically kept off my plate. Kind of ruined my meal when you realise preparing a side of mash is probably easier than cooking fries a la minute. Also, our original server was running out the door as we were walking to her and I get that we're not amigos and that you're "off the clock", but you could acknowledge that you were leaving and that so-and-so would handle our check, but it was rather unnecessarily terse on all ends. Hardly hospitable. EDITED: I was reached out to by management via their FB Page and offered a refund and an apology. That's pretty decent of them. Revised...

We had a nice meal there, food was very nice, we had to wait an hour, which was a bit long however food was very good. However the waitress tipped a drink all over me, which was fine accidents do happened and for once I was quite clam about it, after the third attempt we did get some towels so I could try and dry myself off, yes I was wearing my most expensive new shirt as well.

The waitress came back and said did we want some free dips/bread for the table I said yes okay. Then another waitress turned up with a small plate and said this is for you as you "complained".

We all looked at each other and said no - we did not complain (it was in fact offered to me) so she went away to check, came back and said yes its for you, plonked it on table, then later on before we had even finished eating it, she took it away. I noticed she was rude to the other customers as well, so did not take it personally.

Would I eat there again no - poor customer service I do not like, I will keep going for a drink their...

Should You Go HereShould You Go Here
Yes, you should go here. This is a local for me and have been many times, the service is generally really good. Occasionally it’ll get really busy and the table service for drinks can dry up a bit but it’s just a quick trip to the bar. Jordie, Elliot and Grace in particular are fantastic! P Food is good, solid pub food with snacks and meals for everyone. The recent change of ownership, and subsequent loss of decent craft beer options on tap is a bit frustration, especially with other nearby bars lacking options as well - it would see like an easy fix but one that the big brewery companies can’t be bothered with. Otherwise, you’ll have a great meal here, good atmosphere and friendly staff.

Another pub another burger, mad dash to get another burger in for Wellington On A Plate. Good place for all the locals as it appeared there were a number of regulars drinking and eating when we got in. Popular place in the evenings so you may have trouble getting a carpark. From what I could see it might be tight for a wheelchair to get in?? Service was quick, friendly and polite. As for the burger it was great. I would definitely recommend the Trading Company and will be going back there again.
