Patrick's Pies Gold Star Bakery Rotorua — Attraction in North Island

We came from Auckland on a holiday heard about this gold star pie place called Patrick's pies thought we would give it a try .So on arrival the pie shop it was on a busy road minimal space for parking so we parked a little up the road walked in the shop & the shop was immaculate & so beautifully clean and the food looked amazing staff was friendly aswell looked at the pie menu and brought a mince & cheese pie and a pork & kumara pie and when i ate these pies I found that the pork & kumara pie was really bland almost flavourless which i didnt understand why bcos kumara has such a sweet flavour to it but i had no flavour but the gravy with this pork & kumara pie was clumpy & thick so I didn't want to eat the rest of it & So i ate the mince and cheese pie found that this was very salty and had a strong hard flavour after taste that over powered the pie unsure of what it was but it wasn't nice but each to there own tho everyone has different taste buds but myself & hubby are not fans of these 2 pies...

One of the best pies we’ve eaten during our trip to Nz! Saw the splendid reviews but we did not expect it to be THIS GOOD. Pies were piping hot and the ratio of filling to the pie’s size was just nice (not too much nor too little)!

*However, the pie crust here is more buttery as compared to the other pies we had in the South. So if you enjoy buttery, rich and thick pie crust, and creamy fillings - this pie shop is for you :)

We ordered five different flavours in total but we could not even pick a favourite: Pepper steak Cajun chicken and spinach Roast duck creamy mushroom, bacon & cheese Roast pork mushroom caramelised onion cheese Potato top

They were all delicious and am not arranging them based on favs, just a random sequence. And kuddos to the owner who was super friendly! Had a short chat with him on how he started his business and he is such a humble guy. Lots of love...

Super disappointed. I’m a big fan of NZ pies having grown up here. Was looking forward to the roast duck pie my entire vacation heading to Rotorua, but the pie is super underwhelming. Gravy too thick, not enough flavor, pastry is not crispy and very thick. The center wasn’t even hot when we ate it right at the bakery.

The worst part is that we asked the cashier lady if they had any more roast duck pies since they were sold out when we first lined up. She told us they were out, so we ordered two other underwhelming pies (seafood and roast pork). About 5 mins into eating our pies in the joint they brought out a few more duck pies.
