I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this exhibition. Myself and a friend, both middle aged women with only a passing interest in Marvel decided it would be something different to do.

We had lunch at the Takina cafe then we went to our timed viewing. The only negative thing I'd say is I can see how small children wouldn't be keen. Not much to hold their interest and quite a lot of different lights and sounds.

For us though it was a smorgesboard of interesting material. Information on the history of Marvel comics was interspersed with original outfits, oversized models to pose next to and original drawings done by the famous Marvel contributors.

I'd always presumed comics were a bit light weight but how wrong I was. The amazing thought that goes into them, their reflection of real world issues and the skillful art work was quite the revelation.

I will be revisiting the movies with a much greater respect and interest from now on.

I'd recommend an hour and a half as an adult without kids if you...

SHAME ON WCC & NZ Police

I attended the awesome Inflection Event at Tākina on Saturday 18-May. Approaching the event centre I smelt a pungent smell of excrement from the Wakefield Street through the walkway to the front on Cable St. I was alerted by security that two of the protesters from across the road had thrown a bottle each, at one of the Speakers. I was horrified to later learn that the police were bystanders at this event centre to allow these individuals to return back across to their minority group of protestors. So, why did WCC have added security as the landlords, while police were not doing their duty of care. Had my group been a few minutes earlier, I would have had a civil complaint to our Police & WCC for your lack of care. I'm shocked by these individuals behaviour, & worst the lack of professional service & responsibility, to members of the public. Our values & beliefs MATTER too. Why were the individuals...

I fully enjoyed my time at this convention center. It was lovely. Clean and modern facilities, an amazing exhibit (Marvel), and a great cafe that I would return to even if I wasn't visiting the center for anything else specific. I spent 2 hours in the exhibit alone. It was well done. The restrooms were clean and well stocked. The employees I interacted with were all polite and seemed happy to be working that day. I had an issue paying online for the exhibit ticket as the website kept stating my post code was wrong, and the employee at the counter quickly told me not to worry and rang me up. I wasn't charged extra, and I received a paper ticket, which I appreciated a lot as a nice little memento. The cafe's food was amazing. I had the eggs bene and after the exhibit enjoyed some fries. Staff were friendly and quickly bought my food out to me both times. The sitting area is lovely. You have the option of sitting inside or in a little...

Movie and TV fans should go see this new Marvel exhibition at the Takina centre. The costumes on display have a special feel to them that is difficult to portray in a photograph, probably because they were worn by famous celebrities in all these blockbuster Marvel movies as they carried out their character roles. The attention to detail and thought put into these costumes is extraordinary, beyond that of e.g. a Valentino, Gucci piece of designer fashion. The exhibition which also includes many original comic book attractions and Marvel artworks is perfectly displayed by the Takina centre to make for a world class experience at a reasonable ticket price. The only drawback was I personally found it a bit chilly in the exhibition right at the start until I acclimatised (because it was hot outside) so if you chill easily I recommend you bring a jersey.
