Walk Wellington — Local services in North Island

Summary: Had an okay tour with an elderly lady who had issues remembering her tour, but did remember to make multiple political and racist remarks.

Did a walking tour with Robyn about a week ago. While she was lovely, she seemed to struggle remembering the simple narrative she was trying to tell us about the city. I don’t mind if little details are lost or missed, but the key messages she was trying to share with us seemed a challenge for her to remember.

The tour ended at parliament where she recalled a time of Covid-19 protests where I quote: “uneducated brown people were jeering at me when I walked past”. That along with other political remarks were rather distasteful.

One great thing is the guides are all volunteers and the money goes towards the restoration of this city’s wonderful buildings.

I’d still recommend coming on this tour as it sounds like some of the other guides can give a great experience, just a bit unlucky...

We were fortunate to have John L as our tour guide. He was exceptionally informative and entertaining throughout the tour. The walking was easily accomplished , being on mostly flat ground and at a pace that is easy to maintain.. John really knew his stuff and answered all of our questions along with imparting a huge amount of facts. We are so glad we did this tour as there is so much to learn about Wellington, and lots of it not possible without a knowledgeable guide. ...

We joined the walking tour im August. Our guide was Joyce. We enjoyed the walk a lot. Joyce was very informative and could answer all our many questions. She was passionate and managed to transmit us her love for the city. She took time and extra effort so that we could see as much as possible.
