Stayed for 8 nights this week for a work conference held elsewhere and my husbands birthday. Booked a none view king alpine suite. Rooms were expensive at this time of year but worth the cost for the suite given we spent a fair bit of time in there. Huge rooms with seperate living area with tv, dining table and sofa plus seperate lounge chair, bedroom with another tv, kitchenette with microwave and nespresso and full size fridge, and a lovely bathroom with tub and shower seperate. Room was on floor 6 without a view but high enough to have enough natural light which was nice. Room was perfect. Comfortable. Warm (so warm we often turned off the aircon and it was perfect 20 degrees without it on). Tv was a bit dodgy and often wouldnt turn on or slow to change or find a channel which was annoying. Connection to smart tv didnt work. No on demand movies which i would have liked given we couldnt stream. Bathroom was nice. Bathtub great and even toiletries like bath salts were a lovely inclusion. Bed comfy.
Bed socks instead of slippers (although slippers on request which we did they were flat not nice and my feet still hurt) and bathrobe really not nice for the climate. Thin and full of static so sadly unusable. Towel robes would be much better for the cold climate.
Our only real gripe would be the wifi was terrible. I was supposed to do online work as part of my conference and it was mostly unusable. Poor connection and slower than dial up so think twice if need to stay for work here.
Nice touches- a plate of treats for husbands birthday and hand written note. Milk and coffee always delivered promptly. Pillow menu, hot water bottles if you wanted it. The fireplace in reception is beautiful. The views from breakfast are amazing.
Breakfast itself was lovely. The hot items are some of the best and fresh eggs made to order. Some of the pastries were sadly stale. I understand the hotel going to great effort to reduce plastic but butter and jam on show on the table without any container or cover with people coughing everywhere is pretty gross in these times and found offputting. I was a bit peeved to be told no barrista coffee included in breakfast because "we booked with the room" and didnt pay for it ad hoc on the day...when i heard others being offered it (given room was over 450 a night!)
We had pizza one night in the restaurant this was fantastic and super tasty. I loved the idea we could get a discount for not having our room serviced of 20 dollars a day. As we didnt need this the first day this paid for food. Great idea. When we did get the room serviced some days they were very late (5pm) Some days (twice) they left dirty rags in our bathroom. Bath was never cleaned. Bedsheets never changed in 8 night stay.
My only other reason for knocking a star off was the hot tubs. We checked them first day and they were green and cloudy so could not be used. Clearly not being sanitised (i own a hot tub and water should be clear if not it means they are not sanitary) so we couldnt use them.
Overall we loved our stay here with some slight improvements would be 5/5. Would 100% stay again but hope the wifi and tvs can...
Read moreAs Accor members and travel agents, we’ve come to appreciate the little touches that make a hotel stay memorable — and being part of the MGallery Collection, we were hopeful this property would truly stand out. In many ways, it has.
Location & Atmosphere The location is ideal — right near the CBD with an easy, short walk in. Don’t be put off by the mention of a hill; it’s barely noticeable. The hotel itself is a beautiful blend of cosy, warm, and unique. It strikes a balance between boutique charm and polished professionalism.
Service & Rooms Reception staff have been absolutely fantastic — warm, attentive, and efficient. Room attendants deserve a special mention for their thoughtful, personalised notes wishing us a great day, along with two turn-down services per day. It’s these small, personal details that elevate the experience and reflect true hospitality, reception staff take the time to ask how our stay and holiday is going which is also nice
Dining Experience This has been a mixed bag.
First Night: After dining out, we returned to the restaurant for dessert and hot chocolate. Unfortunately, we waited 45 minutes for a single dessert, and the hot chocolate arrived cold.
Breakfast: Day one breakfast was exceptional, delivered with warmth and care. Day two, however, felt like we were interrupting a staff conversation. When we asked about ordering eggs, we were curtly told to “fill out the form yourself,” in contrast to the welcoming service the previous morning.
Dinner Service Due to bad weather, we opted to dine in. Upon arrival (around 6:10pm with only 12 guests seated), we were asked if we had a reservation. We were then seated right next to the noisy kitchen — not ideal, especially as I have a hearing condition. The noise, along with staff standing and chatting behind us, made the experience less than pleasant. Staff appearance also felt a bit unpolished for a hotel of this calibre, we even had to write down our accor plus# it was too much for the guy to do it as he turned and started talking to another guest.
That said, the food was outstanding — full credit to the chefs for delivering on taste and quality.
Valet Parking Van be messy and disorganised most time we had to find the valet staff for assistance with getting our vehicle but the hotel carpark was very busy.
Final Thoughts Overall, this hotel delivers excellent value, especially in terms of location, room quality, and personalised guest touches. While the dining service could use some refinement, we’d still highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay — especially for fellow Accor members and travel clients looking for charm and comfort in the heart...
Read moreWe booked thru Expedia for two nights and then another night the day after. We arrived at the hotel before 2pm and we were told the room was not ready. Receptionist took care the registration smoothly and we were assigned a room on the 5th floor. The lobby and the entrance was actually on the 4th floor. When we first found our room, it's right next by the elevator which we knew could be noisy depending on the night activities. When we entered the room, we noticed it was a good size room with a king bed. However immediately we heard some conversation nearby the window. After we opened up the curtain we realized the room was right above the parking attendant station. Then we continuously hearing car door slamming since it was peak check in time.
We immediately called the front desk and talked to the supervisor "Sam". He told us that the hotel was fairly full and there was no room in our category available. After several minutes of unhappy discussion with Sam, he finally gave us an option for one room further away from the parking attendant but it's only good for one night. We would be asked to move to another room the following night to the 3rd floor. Without any knowledge of the condition on the 3rd floor rooms, we hesitated about the move. We were only staying for two nights and we need to change room. That means we couldn't lay our stuff inside the room just like switching to another hotel.
Then we hung up with Sam for 10 minutes. Afterwards we realized there was no way we could get any sleep with the noise situation. We called Sam back and accepted the fate of switching room the next night. Sam told us we still had to wait another half an hour for the room to be ready. At that time we were so tired with the room situation. Finally the bell man showed up and helped us changing the room. Believe it or not, the new room is just two doors further down the driveway. The room was obviously smaller than the first one. We don't hear much conversation noise any more. However throughout the two nights we still continued hearing the door slamming and driving up the driveway noise.
We came back for our 2nd reservation the day after. We specifically informed the front desk of the car and driveway noise issue during our last departure and asked for a room not facing the driveway. We did get a room facing the garden side on the 3rd floor which was bigger and quiet. That room was more like a 4 star hotel standard.
In summary the room issue on the 4th floor facing the driveway is horrible for a four star...
