My two tamariki (children) and I visited the Wellington Zoo for the 1st time over the weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A highlight for us was seeing the Māori atua in the locals section as seeing these pou represented as they are with a description beside them was very awe inspiring. It was really cool to see so much Te reo Māori signs and how it has been incorporated throughout the zoo. Mīharo mahi Wellington Zoo! We stayed for the whole day. Kids said they enjoyed building a fort by Tane Mahuta, listening to the keepers talking about the animals and finding more about them and getting to see all the animals. The zoo is well maintained with clean facilities. Staff were nice and the ladies in the reception area and gift shop were very friendly and answered all the questions we asked with passion and enthusiasm which was awesome. We also had lunch at the Cafe just outside the zoo and what beautiful meals they severed by polite and friendly staff. Overall an excellent day spent at the zoo due to the attentive, friendly approach of staff and clean facilities. Thank you to all the pukumahi (hardworking) staff at the Wellington Zoo for everything that you do 💛🧡💛

My friend and I visited the Zoo while we were in Wellington, and we had a pretty good time. We saw the kiwis, plenty of lizards and primates, giraffes, and tigers. I thought the spiders were fascinating, too. It was pretty busy when we went, but we could still get tickets quickly at the door for a fair price. All the staff members we interacted with were friendly and polite. I want to come back on a quieter day and spend a bit more time in each of the exhibits here. It was school holidays when we visited, and some of the groups passing through were a bit obnoxious, pushy and noisy (which isn't the Zoo's fault at all; it's just what happens at that time of year, so definitely plan the day there accordingly). We circled back to the kiwis at the end of our visit when it was quieter since a few noisy groups passed through and frightened the kiwis when we were there the first time around. We were lucky enough to spot one pottering about after waiting patiently and quietly for a little while. I'd recommend visiting the zoo this way if you have the time to.

The zoo has a wide veriety of animals, both exotic and domestic for people of all ages to enjoy. Some of the exotic species include giraffes, cheetahs, red pandas and various monkey species. There is a wide range of invertebrates including praying mantises and various types of tarantulas with a lot of information which is interesting for children and adults alike. The domestic species include kunekune pigs, sheep, chickens and a beautiful pair of giant rabbits, all of which are tame and friendly. The toilet facilities are all placed within close distance to all the animal enclosures which allows for easy access and everything is wheelchair accessible as there are no stairs, only ramps. There is a lot of child friendly playing areas including slides and green open spaces with a lot of picnic benches. The best bit in my opinion is the kiwi enclosures where i got to see 3 kiwi up close which is a very special experience.

Walked into the main entrance and waited behind a family at the counter, then staff member walked away to do other things, stood for 5mins while another staff member was at gift shop counter I was asked if I was okay after the 5mins to which I replied "Um no I'd can I buy a ticket" I wasn't standing at the counter for fun plus they weren't exactly busy with other people waiting at the time just me and my girls. It is so easy to walk in for free Pretend you're going toilet and then walk straight into the Zoo. There's nothing stopping the public from paying before walking in. That's the only let down I have The zoo animals were beautiful and were out to play and on display this day, the zoo keepers around the park were friendly and considerate. Highlight of the day was seeing the Giraffes and my children sitting next to the pen eating their lunch with them 😂

The kids loved it! Such cool animals! I especially love seeing the giraffes As a parent I appreciated: *Seats everywhere *Water fountains and bottle fill stations *2 different parent rooms *pram friendly terrain *shaded decently when needed There is some steep-ish uphill walking at parts for those with mobility considerations. If I had known I would’ve put a picnic together to eat at one of the nice play areas, there’s a few different play grounds or eating areas. The cafe was nice, had some lovely cold water after a big walk and cabinet food was a fairly good selection, menu was pretty standard- prices are as expected for that kind of thing (slightly higher than a standard cafe I guess) The gift shop was not as scarily priced as some gift shops, lots of soft toys of the animals that are quite cute! Over all a great day with the family, will do again!
