This was my first Outsite experience and I’ve been warned by others that my bar is now too high! The service provided by the community manager (Emily) and resort staff was prompt and fantastic. The Outsite members are somewhat scattered throughout an existing resort (La Santa Maria), there are a couple studios, and two Villas located on different levels. Would be better if the Outsite properties were clustered next to one another for a better sense of community. Additionally - Casa 4 does not have AC in the community space (kitchen & living room) and this is not advertised. If you plan to work in this space I recommend requesting Casa 6 instead, where the whole villa is equipped with AC. There were small things that made each villa different (one had a dishwasher the other didn’t, one had an outdoor grill the other didn’t, etc) but if you get to know all the residents it’s easy to share facilities and coordinate dinners in the AC site! Also - the rooms that share a bathroom are not sound proofed. If you need quiet days/evenings I recommend a different room for more privacy.
The Nic’a locals are lovely and really appreciate when you speak with them in Spanish and are curious about their little beach town. There are so many restaurants and cafes not on the map that you’d find by local recommendation, so get to know your community manger, your surf instructor, etc. they’ll give you the inside scoop!
Stay for 2+ weeks to get the most of your time, but I truly recommend a month if you want to build a friendship with the locals and get a good vibe of the area. It’s a great site to do day trips by rental car to the different beaches, Ometepe, Granada, etc. The beach in SJDS is great to walk down and there are good restaurants there, but it’s not best for laying out or swimming. There are lots of boats anchored there and it feels a bit dirty. I recommend taking a surf lesson from Alexs Surf Shop who will take you to Remanso beach, and using a rental car to get to Hermosa (perfect for laying out and relaxing with drinks from the beach bar). I also recommend going on a catamaran boat ride with Salt Nica. I only recommend getting around by motorbike if you are licensed, most locals travel this way so they’re ruthless on the (dirt) roads with no patience for learners or tourists. It’s not the place to learn given the hill you descend from the resort down to the town.
I’d love to return to SJDS, I spent 10 days here and would prefer 1 month minimum to make the most of...
Read moreI loved everything about my stay at Outsite San Juan Del Sur! So much so that I'm already planning to spend a couple months here next winter. I'm new to Outsite and learned about it through friends that are renting a condo in the resort where Outsite's villas are located.
The resort in itself is amazing. The accommodations are modern and clean and the view is absolutely breathtaking. Community manager is quick to respond to any demand and super friendly. You can either use their coworking space or work directly from your villa. I also appreciated the fact that the city is about 10 to 15 mins walk, so it makes it super easy to go get groceries or go out to eat. You can also get great snacks directly from the Clubhouse on site. The avocado toasts are delicious and fresh coconut water is a must.
While you're there, I highly recommend getting breakfast at Ding Repair Cafe: their acaï smoothie bowl are to die for! You can also take the time to get a little work done while enjoying their delicious cashew milk matcha latte. Dinner at Dale Pues is also a go to if you're looking for a cool laid back vibe and great food.
I am so looking forward to visit again...
Read moreThis was my first experience with Outsite and my partners first experience with a remote worker community, and we both had a phenomenal time.
For me, I've done remote travel with community groups before, and those were great. But for this trip with Outsite, it was nice to have the community as an option instead of something that dominated the experience. We had a fantastic crew of people there, but it was nice to be able to have more low key nights by ourselves as well.
For both of us, the studio apartment accommodations worked really well, giving us plenty of space to work, cook, and relax. We made really good use of the pool and the gym on site (amazing views!) and were regulars at the restaurant below us, Hierbabuena (the whole fish was excellent!).
Could we have done this trip for less? Maybe, but for a first experience it gave us everything we needed. Community. Fantastic support from the staff. Reliable power and internet to get our work done.
Would highly recommend this type of stay to travelers newer to the game or looking for a little more of an upgraded experience than the typical...
