Kurshumli an (Ottoman caravanserai) — Attraction in Municipality of Chair

It's one of the largest Ottoman era inns in the world, located in one of the largest Bazaars with authentic architecture. It used to serve as an outpost for trade caravans. However, this cultural landmark is starting to deteriorate and it's showing. It's usually closed for visitors, except on special occasions like the Makedox Festival in August, because it's unsafe for the public. Despite its importance, nobody seems to care about its restoration. Neither the Macedonian government which gave it away to Turkey, nor the Turkish government, which is the current proprietor, and will continue to be over the nex 100 years or so. Kurshumli An est un caravansérail historique situé à Skopje, en Macédoine du Nord. Il date de l'époque ottomane et fait partie du Vieux Bazar de Skopje, l'un des plus grands bazars des Balkans.

Histoire et architecture :

Construit au XVIe siècle, il servait d’auberge pour les marchands et voyageurs de passage.

Son nom, "Kurshumli", signifie "plombé" en turc, en référence à son toit autrefois recouvert de plomb.

L’édifice est un excellent exemple de l’architecture ottomane, avec une grande cour intérieure entourée de cellules voûtées qui étaient utilisées comme chambres.

Aujourd’hui, il fait partie du Musée archéologique de Macédoine et accueille des expositions et événements culturels.
