Muséhagen — Attraction in Bergen

The garden is a botanical gem - despite the fact that it is not particularly large. There is enough space for a kitchen garden with food plants and spices, many flower beds, a rock garden and a rock garden with beautiful flowers, a systematic arboretum with over a hundred trees, a water garden with three ponds, a tropical greenhouse (currently closed for renovation, miscellaneous) and a small Victorian house .

The museum garden is a protected botanical garden with science, research and communication as a focus area. The selection of plants is large and varied with approximately 3,000 different varieties. The garden is the result of 120 years of development, with constant testing of new species and varieties. Many are brought in as seeds from wild-growing species in Norway and other parts of the world, but there are also cultivated forms of economically important species and especially beautiful varieties.

The garden has been developed since it was founded at the end of the 19th century as an outdoor continuation of the natural history collections inside the museum. From the beginning, the garden consisted of rounded beds, lawns and gently winding footpaths. But large parts of the garden have later been changed according to a more straight line and strict plan. The old garden in the north, on the other hand, has not changed in shape. The museum garden is a living plant collection at the University Museum in Bergen, and in fact several plants have been there since the garden was inaugurated. Hagen er ei botanisk perle – trass i at han ikkje er særleg stor. Det er nok plass til kjøkkenhage med matplantar og krydder, mange blomebed, fjellhage og steinhage med vakre blomar, eit systematisk arboret med over hundre tre, vasshage med tre dammar, eit tropisk veksthus (akkurat no stengt for oppussing, diverre) og eit lite viktoriahus.

Muséhagen er ein freda botanisk hage med vitskap, forsking og formidling som fokusområde. Utvalet av planter er stort og variert med omtrent 3000 ulike sortar. Hagen er eit resultat av 120 års utvikling, med stadig utprøving av nye artar og sortar. Mange er henta inn som frø frå vilt veksande artar i Noreg og andre delar av verda, men det finst også kulturformer av økonomisk viktige artar og særleg vakre sortar.

Hagen er utvikla sidan han vart grunnlagd i slutten av 1800-talet som ei utandørs fortsetjing av dei naturhistoriske samlingane inne i museet. Frå byrjinga bestod hagen av avrunda bed, plenar og mjukt svinga gangstiar. Men store delar av hagen har seinare vorte endra etter ein meir rettlinja og strikt plan. Gamlehagen i nord er derimot ikkje endra i forma. Muséhagen er ei levande plantesamling ved Universitetsmuseet i Bergen, og faktisk står fleire planter att sidan hagen...
