I used Fjord Tours on two occasions - to ferry from Bergen to Flåm and again for the Flåm Zipline and bike experience. Booking was seamless and it was easy to dowload tickets. I also chose to print mine, though it isn't necessary. The 5 hour ferry ride felt much shorter - the seats were extremely comfortable and the restroom facilties were fine for me (I have kidney failure, so I use these a lot!). We spent a good amount of time on deck sightseeing and came to be aware of some beautiful stops we might choose to visit in the future. We could have caught the bus or train to Flåm and then paid for the fjord safari (our original plan) but luggage space was adequate and the journey restful - we treated it like a mini cruise and arrived at our destination refreshed. Food and drink is available at reasonable cost too. The Flåm Railway is one of the most beautiful journeys in the world, so that is a bonus about the zipline/cycle trip - you might need to catch the train to get there (arranged at booking time). The zipline is not as fast as I was expecting, which was a bit less exciting, but allowed me to take in the scenery. The cycle ride was brilliant - we packed refreshments and stopped at various points along the way to take in our surroundings. I am in my 50s and unfit - I managed the journey with 3 or 4 short bursts of walking the bike uphill. There were far more active people than me doing this, too! The bikes have regular brakes on the handlebars and can also brake if you pedal backwards. I suggest that being overly-confident doesn't pay off on this journey - the road surface changes and there are patches of sand and grit which catch people out if they're travelling too fast. As with any journey, people need to be aware of where they are going. Time is your own with the bikes, so it makes sense to thoroughly explore the area. I have no suggestions for improvement with...
Read moreThis was our first trip to Norway, and we flew all the way from Dubai, mainly to experience the country’s stunning fjord landscapes—a lifelong dream for us. After much research and positive expectations about Norwegian travel standards and consumer rights, we booked the highly recommended Norway in a Nutshell tour with Fjord Tours for July 29, 2025.
Sadly, the most important part of the tour—the fjord cruise from Flåm—was abruptly cancelled due to a mechanical failure ("boat is broken" was the only explanation we received at the terminal). With no prior notice or viable alternatives, we were rushed onto a bus with little time to ask questions or consult the Flam visitor center. It felt very impersonal and dismissive.
While Fjord Tours has offered a small partial refund (~20% of the total package), this doesn’t reflect the true value lost. The fjord cruise wasn’t just one leg—it was the heart of the entire experience, and the reason we booked a premium package.
We acknowledge that Fjord Tours is a reputable operator and that technical issues can happen, but we felt deeply hurt and disappointed by the way this was handled. Proper contingency planning and timely communication were lacking.
We are currently considering escalation to the Norwegian Consumer Council, as we believe this situation deserves a more responsible response. If any other travelers experienced the same issue on 29th July (or on other dates), we’d welcome hearing your experience.
Norway is a beautiful country, and we hope our review helps improve how such disruptions are managed in the future—for the benefit of all travelers.
Fjord Tours should take full responsibility, not just offer a...
Read moreA self guided tour. All required information was received on time and with prefect details as needed. It is all upto a Guest to decide how fast or slow to make the full journey. A first ' self guided' tour we took. It went off well. The information on their website is well collated to understand the full tour. We took the ' norway in a nutshell ' tour last month. Well worth the money spent. It is an expensive tour. One feedback for the company. I hope they act upon it. At the railway station, Voss. We switched to a bus. It is obvious that for a large group on the tour ( the company has the exact count well in advance ); there would surely be more than one bus for all the guests. But we did not know this. So at the bus boarding bay, it was a chaos. As no bus or buses was already waiting for us. First, one bus came to the bay. After quite some time. Everyone was rushing to get inside. Thus all ruckus and chaos and jostling. Then after a while, other buses came into the bay. For us, it was quite an ordeal. We had put our luggage inside the first bus. As it was sure we could not get a seat. We rushed ( everyone was running around) to the 2nd , then 3rd bus. But first, taking out the luggage from the 1st bus, was an ordeal. As our bag was pushed further inside the luggage compartment. I had literally to go into the compartment ( quite a task for a 70 year ). Moreover, no staff from the tour company or the bus company to guide us or assist us. This has to be corrected - clear information and instructions in advance; staff to be available; some signage at the bus bay. If can do - assign at least a ' bus number...
