I went to Flor og Fjære from my work. This is a man made tropical gardens on an island of Sør-Hidle outside of Stavanger, Norway. It is open for tourists from beginning of May until the end of September (according to the infirmary on their website) You can buy the tickets using their website and also mention your dietary requirements(if any) this tour is a package tour, the package includes to and fro boat trip, guided island tour and lunch or dinner depending on the timings you choose. The boat departs from Bekhuskaien, near Fiskepirterminalen (the boat terminal) in Stavanger. We went in the evening in the beginning of June 2022. Boat arrived and we had to show the tickets at the entrance of the boat. The seats are comfortable, there are toilets on the boat. The boat trip takes approximately 20 mins. As soon as you disembark the boat, a guide will welcome you and give you a guided tour of the island. Our guide for the evening was called Siri, she was a lovely lady and gave us all the informations about the island, about our evening and guided us through the island. It is a very beautiful place with lots of plants, flowers, breathtaking and colourful sceneries. You will enjoy the landscape of the garden and the beauty of it. After the guided tour of the island we were taken to the newly built restaurant which is beautiful, huge and it takes you to a magical world with so much nature inside the restaurant. There is a waterfall, an olive tree, lots of flowers and it is very beautiful. Our tables were ready and it was very well organised. As it was from the work we had a huge room for ourselves. We had some drinks and starters. Then the chef came to the room where we were seated to welcome us and explained about the menu, how the food was prepared. Then the food was served, we had starters, main course and dessert and coffee, tea. I am vegetarian so had special vegetarian food served and it was yummy. I loved the food. After the yummy dinner we strolled around the garden and took lots of pictures. Our boat arrived at 9.30 pm and reached Stavanger around 10.00 pm. The weather was gorgeous and we have daylight till almost midnight. It was a beautiful day. I would recommend this to to anyone who enjoys being in nature, want to celebrate, go with family. There are toilets, bar, outside seating area and pets are allowed as well. You can borrow the umbrella if it starts raining. If you are physically unable to walk, you can also bring your own wheel chair. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It was a very memorable trip for me and I loved and enjoyed every bit of the trip to Flor og...
Read moreA beautiful place and garden. Impressive setup that requires a lot of work each season. We where told that they plant 50000 summer flowers each year in the summer garden. Done by 5 persons over 3 months.
They have put up a lot of different theme areas. Impressive that they manage a dessert theme in the wet cold west coast of Norway.
We was in a group where one of the grandsons of the founder did the show and tell. He was unfortunately a bit arrogant. Probably tired of telling and answering the same questions over and over again.
We come with kids and a dog. I would highly recommend not bringing dogs or kids to this place. What kids are interested in fauna and flowers? Take it rather as a couple trip.
The restaurant had a cool head from the Netherlands. He was very entertaining. Unluckily the food was not close to being good or balanced.
We got served a very good fish soup with four different fish’s in it. With cod and salmon among them. That was the best part of the meal.
The main dish had a baked broccoli mouse, that was way too tasteless. The Chicken was over cooked and then had a tasteless skin. The ham was the best part. It tasted ok, but the sauce was not a good fit (some sour kind).
The service in the restaurant was bad. I needed to ask three times to order drinks. Maybe we where a bit unlucky placed behind a big table with a birthday party taking all the servants attention.
We even got served a kids menu without ordering it (they changed it fast luckily). We observed a kid on the 50 years party that probably should have had it …
With our dog I would have preferred to be placed close to the door, not in the end of the room.
The boat trip back and forth was very pleasant.
All in all I would recommend this place to people interested in gardening and that enjoys beautiful gardens. Don’t get here...
Read moreAbsolutely breathtaking! My mother had been there many years ago, and I visited for the first time, and we were both stunned at how beautiful the gardens were and how put together the whole experience was!
When we arrived at the island we were met by very friendly and efficient staff pointing us in the right direction, and our guide Olav was simply amazing! His passion and enthusiasm shone through the entire way, and you can tell he’s built this place with so much love and care! He was super informative and very funny, and I loved following him around and hear the story of how the place came to be.
When the tour was over we were led into the “jungle restaurant”, were the staff was nothing short of amazing! The food was excellent and the drinks were great! Also major plus that the bathrooms (as well as the entire rest of the place I believe) were wheelchair accessible with a lowered sink, soap dispenser and mirror.
After dinner we had time to walk through the garden at our own pace, buy more drinks from the beach bar and visit the souvenir shop.
The entire place was amazing from start to finish, and the staff really made us feel welcome! The owners have done an amazing job at hiring the right people for the place and making it the experience it is!
Though the price can seem a bit steep it is 100% worth the money, and you’ll be blowed away by the beauty of this place. We’ll definitely be back in the future. If you’re in Stavanger...
