I stayed at Radisson Atlantic for one night in September 2018. I had booked in advance and prepaid so check in was fast and we got room 1108. The hotel was totally refurbished last year so it is basically shiny and new! Getting out of the elevator on the 11th floor is great as you get an awesome view to the lake of Breiavannet and the city of Stavanger. When we came to our room it turned out that we had gotten the same lovely city view!
The room is fairly standard in terms of size. When walking in the room starts with a carpet but most of the room has light wooden floors. The walls were in a greyish color which is a bit unusual and there was some generic art of the wall. The room featured a large king-size bed with one large duvet. The bed was soft and super comfortable in my opinion. Apart from that there was a leather “sofa” along the wall and a comfortable chair with a foot stool. On the wall there was a large flat screen TV with good image quality. And again, the view of the city was awesome! Internet wifi was included and even if the speedtest showed a 10 mb line, it still felt quite slow at times.
The room also featured a Nespresso machine, it had a small fridge with some drinks and there was even a small safe. I’m not sure how many that uses the minibar as a beer was 85 kroner (10 USD) and the tiny red wine was 190 kroner (23 USD). That is just silly if you ask me! The room also had an iron and an ironing board, so it was well equipped for a Norwegian hotel room!
The bathroom was small but very functional with light tiles, a great glass shower corner and there were amenities such as shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. There is good lighting in the bathroom including around the mirror.
We also had to check out the gym on the 12th floor. The gym is not huge, but it includes some weights and treadmills with a great view of the city. There is also a sauna with the same epic view! The jacuzzi is located on a terrace right outside the sauna but unfortunately this was out of order while we were there.
Location of the hotel is great in my opinion as it is only a few minutes’ walk away from the very center of Stavanger with lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. The hotel restaurant FireLake is also quite good and can provide some good steaks.
We had breakfast in the hotel at about 9 am on Sunday morning and this might be the only thing that was a bit disappoint about the hotel. The breakfast area was very busy and it seemed like there was not enough staff to clean up the tables and keep on filling up in the breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet was quite standard for a Norwegian hotel with a good choice of bread with various spread, pastry, cereal, fruit etc. There were some pre-fried eggs with a bit of bacon on but the one that I got was quite cold by the time I got it on my plate.
But all in all, I’m impressed by the “new” Atlantic hotel. I can’t imagine that there are many hotels that can offer a better hotel stay in the middle...
Read morePros Centrally located Beautiful views of the pond and city Spacious rooms Controllable AC Gorgeous sauna on 12th floor overlooking the city Cons No parking; you need to park a couple of blocks away at an independently owned parking garage and must pay for it Gym looks a bit worn down; machines need to be refreshed Busy hotel w/ lots of business travelers and large tour buses Concierge/hotel email responses are slow, assuming you get a response
This is a large hotel, centrally located. It’s a very popular hotel for business travelers and large tours. Depending on the time of day and week you arrive, you might find a large tour bus or two pulled up in the front w/ a large group of people checking in. There’s a constant flow of business travelers but they usually move quick and with purpose. As a tourist, it’s easy to walk to the marina, old town, and Pedersgata street.
Hotel has a nice restaurant that is available to non-guests as well. We did not dine there but has a nice ambience. The gym is located on the 12th floor but feels a bit neglected. One of the machines seemed out of service and the placement of the machines feels like an afterthought. However, there’s a nice large sauna w/ floor to ceiling windows that overlooks the city. There’s also a small outdoor deck you can sit at and enjoy the view.
If you are like me and travel w/ a water bottle, you are able to fill up still or sparking water in the gym. There is also a water jug in the lobby.
The rooms are nice and spacious. You are able to control your own AC but note that the hotel has it locked to not go any lower than 18 degrees Celsius. IMO, this is too high and it still got warm at night; would have been nice if we could have dropped it to 16, though I am assuming this is only an issue for few months of the year.
Hotel does not have a dedicated or free parking. If you are driving in with a car, you need to park at one of the two parking garages that are 2 to 3 blocks away. These are independently own garages as well so you pay directly w/ ‘em through your license plate. The parking garages are easy, it’s just annoying if you have to drag your luggage to and from the parking garages.
Overall, this is a nice hotel if you are looking to stay in the central area; it is large and...

The Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel is a well-known landmark in Stavanger & is centrally located just three minutes from the main train station. Since its opening in 1952, the hotel has been renovated several times. Today, the 365-room hotel complex comes in a fresh Nordic design with lots of wood, leather, marble, brass & copper. During my three-night stay, I stayed in a premium room with a view of the city. All Premium rooms boast comfortable double or single beds, a sitting areas with tables, reading chairs, flat-screen TVs, closets, tea and coffee making facilities & views over the small lake in front of the hotel to the city. The white-tiled bathrooms are equipped with a washbasin, a shower, an integrated toilet & Radisson Blu toiletries. Unfortunately, I was not granted my Radisson Rewards benefits during this stay. FireLake, the hotel's only restaurant, serves North American cuisine with a Scandinavian influence. The traditional Alexander Pub offers spirits, cocktails & simple snacks. A breakfast buffet is offered every morning at Fire Lake. In keeping with the Radisson Blu concept, the service at breakfast is reduced to clearing dishes & drinks. Guests pick up food & drinks on their own from the buffet. The breakfast selection in all Radisson Blu hotels is standardized & includes cold cuts of cheese and sausage, smoked fish, salmon, jams, cheese, hot dishes such as fried eggs, fried bacon & porridge from the buffet as well as fruits & cereals. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to a fitness center on the top floor of the hotel with state-of-the-art equipment & views over the city. After working out, you can relax in the panorama sauna & breathe some fresh air on the adjoining terrace with a magnificent view of Stavanger. Typical for Radisson Blu, the Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel convinces with functional furnishings, Nordic design & a standardized food offer. Its central location makes it an ideal place to explore the city of Stavanger & its surroundings.
