Mogol India in Stavanger, Norway, is a true haven for authentic Indian cuisine, and the dishes offered here have undoubtedly left a lasting impression on my taste buds.
Hiran ki Boti (Ytrefilet): The Hiran ki Boti, a succulent venison fillet, is a unique and delightful addition to the menu. The meat is tender and perfectly cooked, making it a standout dish for those who appreciate game meat. The flavors are well-balanced, and the subtle spices allow the natural taste of the venison to shine through. It's a must-try for adventurous foodies looking to explore beyond traditional Indian meats.
Butter Chicken: No Indian food experience is complete without trying Butter Chicken, and Mogol India's version does not disappoint. The creamy, tomato-based gravy is rich and velvety, coating tender pieces of chicken. The flavors are a beautiful marriage of sweet and savory, making it an instant favorite for those who enjoy comforting, indulgent dishes.
Murgh Tikka Lababdar: Murgh Tikka Lababdar is a delightful chicken dish that stands out for its vibrant red color and robust flavors. The chicken tikka is marinated to perfection and cooked until it's juicy and charred. The Lababdar sauce is a true highlight, boasting a blend of tomatoes, cream, and a medley of spices that create a luscious and unforgettable taste.
Railway Lamb Curry: The Railway Lamb Curry is a nod to the historical dishes served on Indian trains during the British Raj. This hearty curry does justice to its heritage, offering tender pieces of lamb simmered in a flavorful gravy. The use of aromatic spices takes you on a culinary journey through India's vibrant railway stations.
Mango Lassi (Best in the City): To complement the savory dishes, Mogol India serves a Mango Lassi that is undoubtedly the best in Stavanger. This cooling yogurt-based drink is infused with the sweetness of ripe mangoes, creating a refreshing and satisfying beverage that perfectly balances the spiciness of the Indian dishes.
Overall Experience: Mogol India has undoubtedly mastered the art of Indian cooking. Each dish boasts authentic flavors that take your taste buds on a voyage through India's diverse culinary landscape. I wish we got menu straight away while we were seated, cause we had to wait for a while and had to go and ask for a menu ourselves.
We received a compliment snack from a restaurant, crunchy bread chips and 3 different Indian dips. It helped us to calm down our hunger until main dishes arrived.
We tried Garlic Tandoori Chicken, Iāve never tried such tender chicken meat, it was juicy and cutting it was like cutting soft butter. The tomato sauce in a bowl was fantastic, thick and rich in flavor.
Second main dish was Kori Gassi, chicken cooked in a coconut sauce with curry leaves. It was also thick and rich sauce, we enjoyed the coconut flavor. Meat was very tender and juicy.
We got two nan bread. Garlic nan didnāt have much garlic on it, only on one half, so the other half tasted like the ordinary one. Nan with coriander and onions was delicious.
I couldnāt finish my portion of the second dish, cause two main dishes were a bit too much for my small stomach. Staff kindly packed it and I enjoyed my leftovers the next day at home.
Next time we would order one main dish to share, so we have space for a dessert and a drink.
Staff were polite and friendly, customer service is really good š We were asked few times if we enjoy our food. When in the end we asked to pack the food a waiter got too worried and started asking again if we liked the food , if anything is wrong. Thereās nothing wrong, we just were too full, no need to get so worried and ask too many questions, cause we already answered twice that food is delicious. If we didnāt like the food we would leave it on plates and leave.
I like that there was no food smell in the building and the dining area, I guess they have a good ventilation in the kitchen. Thatās great.
My friends love this restaurant and eat here often, finally I tried it too. Will come back for sure to try...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went there in October and had the tasting menu. Tbh we were not very sure about it at the beginning, but it turned into a great experience. The tasting menu started with dahi bhalle. A traditional panjabi dish where fried dough balls are layered with yoghurt, tamarind sauce, mint/coriander sauce. It was good.
The dahi bhalle were followed up with an eggplant bharta layered with goat mousse cheese and with a fried eggplant on the side. This is where I thought to myself, we made the wrong call lol because this is something we always eat at home and how great can eggplant chatnis be? That too without rice. But I was wrong. It was very refreshing.
Item 3 was jhalmuri and fried crabs and jhalmuri is sth I've grown up eating, everyday. These are nice street food items you'll find in Bangladesh or Kolkata. So naturally there was a nostalgia factor, and the crab was delish. The sweetness of the crab, perfectly balances the spice and tanginess of the jhalmuri.
Item 4 was duck with a side of tomato rice. It was really really nice!
Then you get the main dish. I requested tk change the main dish. We had a railway lamb curry, and one prawn item. Their railway lamb curry is already my favorite, so I might be a little biased. I love how the gravy has a gritty texture, and not the usual buttery smooth. And the prawns were light and flavorful. We ended the meal with a nice gulab jamun with a side of ice cream. And a bread based Indian dessert.
The service was top notch. The staff were friendly and welcoming, explaining each...
