The good parts were that the tour company was very responsive and kind, and it was easy to book and pay via a payment link (no cash needed). Also, it was cheap and the pick up and drop off time advertised were correct.
The bad part was the whole tour to Sillustani. They filled the afternoon tour by taking us to a viewpoint over Puno (ok but not overly worth it). Then to a local house/ farm to see llamas and alpacas, try local produce (e.g. potatoes, cheese, mud? - this part was fun ☺️) and to try and sell souvenirs (we weren't pushed too hard to buy anything which was good, but no one wanted to buy anything so it was awkward). Everyone was highly encouraged to give a tip, which given that we didn't ask to be taken to a local farm we feel that the company should pay out of profits to be ethical. Finally we were taken to Sillustani, a very underwhelming site (admittedly with a nice surrounding landscape) with no understandable English signs. We had to walk a little way along a road to get there and back, just to be encouraged to buy souvenirs and drinks again. Worst was our guide, he switched from Spanish to English very frequently with no warning, and he spoke very fast with an accent so we learnt nothing about the site....think something about funeral towers? He looked bored so the whole tour group, whether Spanish or English, was bored and left him half way through the site to do their own thing. In conclusion, you couldn't pay us to do...
Read moreLast week my family group of 13 took the Cultural Awatami Tour. Our guide was fantastic. He matched our families up with the right local hosts (the local that spoke some English and had good toilets with our grandparents; the local with a 11 year old granddaughter with our family that had kids of the same age; etc). We were a bit apprehensive about the experience to begin with, but left feeling very positive. No one had a negative comment. The food was great; the locals very friendly; and the experience was memorable. (Be warned - each of the host families gave us a look that questioned if we paid the right amount - and that's after we have even rounded up. They also will try to sell you knitted items.) All Ways Travel also set up COVID testing for our return flight and took us to the Juliaca airport (they scheduled us a bit short on the time at the airport and we nearly missed our flight...so be sure to give yourself...
Read moreWe went here to get information on guided tours for Titicacasea and got to know Victor who is working at the agency. Allways Travel offers the typical tours to Titicacasea with staying overnight at local family. They make sure that you give the money for accomodation directly to the family which is great so that they are not exploited . Victor was very friendly and gave us advice on restaurants in the city. He also reserved two bus tickets for us via phone in order to go by bus from Arequipa to Cuzco. Unfortunately when we arrived at the bus terminal to Pay for the reservation Victor had made the bus company told us that the bus is full. Somehow sth went wrong. It wasn’t a big deal as end of September is not high season anymore and we could buy tickets for another bus to Cuzco for almost the same money and time on...
