Forte de São Sebastião — Attraction in Angra do Heroísmo

The only good part of this hotel is location and good breakfast. We are here for our 35th wedding anniversary. We were put in the old section with no view, old twin beds, and ants!! Ants all over our personal bathroom belongings when we came back at the end of the day! They knew there was a problem because we saw ant traps in the room. We arrived at 8 am and had to wait until 3 pm. Others were checked in. When I saw our room I asked for a better room. They said they had no rooms available. At 6 pm, two youg ladies checked in and were given a room in the new section. I was at the desk when they checked in and asked why I wasn't offered that room. They just said I wouldn't want that room, it was smaller. I told them I should have been given that choice since I was there 10 hrs before them. They treated us like 2nd class citizens. Wonderful 15th century fortress (exterior Walls, ramps, outer stairs) with a suprise hotel inside the walls. Gorgeous views of the harbour, the city, Mount Brasil, Goat Island. Sadly, no effort is made to offer information or interpretation, but it's well worth the visit. We spent about forty minutes exploring and recommend it. We stayed here two nights and it was great. Plenty of parking, excellent views of the bay and Mount Brasil. The room was comfortable and spacious, the bed was comfy and it was cool to stay in this modern area of the fortress. The fort itself is a nice quick walk to again get great views of the bay and the Atlantic beyond. I would definitely stay here again! A bit of a walk into the city,...
