Parque de Santa Cruz — Attraction in Coimbra

The Garden of Santa Cruz was a gathering place used by the monks of Santa Cruz. The name "Garden of the Mermaid" is due to the fountain near its main entrance with the sculpture of a merman and a dolphin pouring water on a shell with a figure of a mermaid.

The current layout of the park dates to the mid-18th century, with a predominance of baroque style. This is one of the great green spaces of Coimbra. Not long ago, this place was a well-known courting space for students at night. Today, it is a place of rest, tourism, practice of sports and studies.

A curiosity: formerly its entrance had a staircase. Due to the numerous maintenance works of the street, gradually the steps were being suppressed by the levelling of the sidewalk.

Beautiful park with interesting monuments. Unfortunately is lacking some care. A lot of broken monuments, pathways not manicured and water fountains not working. They had a small playground for little kids in the back...

O parque de santa cruz é um local muito agradável, para pessoas que querem ler, caminhar, conhecer ou até mesmo apenas descansar em um de seus bancos.

Ele em si é um ambiente muito bonito, belo, arborizado e como monumentos interessantes para se olhar. Tem várias escadarias e estradas para ir pra todos os lugares que queira.

Todavia senti um pouco a falta de cuidado do lugar, que encontra-se com algumas fontes paradas (a maior também), muitas vegetações grandes.

É possível realizar diversas melhorias e aplica-las de várias formas para que a experiência de quem esteja no parque seja espetácular tornando tudo organizado, limpo e com suas fontes...
