Casa Fernando Pessoa — Attraction in Lisbon

Fantastic experience! First of all, the staff are incredibly lovely and made me feel very welcome as a solo traveller.

You start from the third floor and work your way down, the top floor, about Pessoa's "heteronyms" were fascinating and I especially enjoyed sitting and listening to the poetry. I went on a Tuesday morning which was quiet and it almost felt eerie.

The second floor was the private library which was incredible to see, and a reading room, though I couldn't spot any English copies.

The first, the apartment Fernando Pessoa last lived. Lots of sentimental objects, photographs and information as well as a video testimony from his niece.

I actually didn't know who he was upon coming to Lisbon, but picked up his poetry in Liveria Bertrand and devoured in one evening. From deep diving the author I found Casa Fernando Pessoa and knew I needed to go.

Very much worth the money. Just be careful when putting into maps as it first took me to a wrong location, another residence where he lived which was just a plaque...

A very beautiful museum dedicated to one of , if not the most famous Portuguese writer! The inside is creatively organised and there are descriptions of the exhibitions both in English and in Portuguese. You can have a guided tour (I had one in Portuguese and even though my Portuguese is very basic, it was relatively easy to understand most of the stuff combined with a brief summary the tour guide gave on English and by the descriptions of the exhibitions). Some of the exhibitions are also available in Braille. My favourite part was probably the room where they showcase books of Fernando Pessoa translated in different languages! They change those every week but it was fun to try and find my native language among the rest! Casa Fernando Pessoa è la casa che fu abitata dallo scrittore negli ultimi 15 anni della sua vita, tra il 1920 e il 1935. Oltre a una mostra sulla vita e le opere del poeta, dispone anche di una biblioteca ad accesso libero specializzata su Pessoa e poesia internazionale. Si trova nel quartiere Campo de Ourique.

La missione della “Casa Fernando Pessoa” è quella di utilizzare l'eredità dello scrittore per far conoscere il suo universo creativo unico e fungere da luogo di incontro e riflessione sulla creazione letteraria e le sue molteplici letture. L’eredità documentaria di Fernando Pessoa è stata classificata come Tesoro Nazionale.

La casa è Sede di due biblioteche, una biblioteca pubblica, specializzata in Fernando Pessoa e la poesia mondiale, e la Biblioteca privata di Fernando Pessoa. Ospita ed espone anche oggetti, mobili e documenti dello scrittore, nonché una collezione di opere d'arte, composta da opere di artisti di diverse generazioni e correnti. I libri appartenuti a Fernando Pessoa sono la più grande collezione che conserva e diffonde, permettono di scoprire l'universo creativo dello scrittore.

Alla fine degli anni '80, il Comune di Lisbona ha acquisito l'edificio, che versava in cattivo stato di manutenzione e rischiava di essere demolito. Il fatto che fosse l'ultimo indirizzo di Fernando Pessoa ha reso questo edificio un luogo privilegiato per depositare ed esporre il patrimonio dello scrittore, allora detenuto dal Comune di Lisbona: oggetti personali, alcuni mobili e gran parte dei libri appartenuti allo scrittore.

Inaugurato il 30 novembre 1993, nell'anniversario della morte del poeta, l'intero edificio è stato ricostruito, secondo il progetto dell'architetto Daniela Ermano, lasciando come originarie solo la facciata, le scale che portano al primo piano e due stanze. dall'appartamento di famiglia.
