Yesterday, I attended my first concert at Casa Da Musica and saw Sofia Ribeiro perform. Her voice was absolutely beautiful, and her band was amazing, playing their instruments with such skill and elegance. It was truly a high-quality concert, and I have no complaints about the performance itself. However, I did encounter an issue with Casa Da Musica's seating. The chairs may look acceptable, but they are comparable to office chairs you might find at a bank. They provide little back support, reaching only halfway up your back, which makes sitting comfortably difficult unless you have great core muscles or are very short. Additionally, the chairs have no cushioning. After about an hour, my back and butt started to ache, forcing me to constantly switch positions and distracting me from fully enjoying the concert. On the positive side, Casa Da Musica is conveniently located just a five-minute walk from the train station, making the commute very easy. There's also a cute mini park in the center of the roundabout nearby, adding a nice touch to the surroundings. If you arrive early, there's a café downstairs. Although I didn't get a chance to check it out myself, it seems like a nice option for a pre-concert snack or drink. ******** Editing my review. I returned to Casa Da Musica tonight to see pianist Mario Laginha. The concert room was much larger than the one from the previous night and featured cushioned chairs, which made me very happy. The concerts are consistently high quality, but the comfort of the chairs varies depending on which room the concert is held in.

The famous building designed by Rem Koolhaas disappointed me when I went to a concert there. Unfortunately, the building is not as beautiful as it is portrayed in photographs; I thought it was a major architectural failure. There is no attention to detail, just a superficial mass. The interior design lacks guidance on where to go upon entry... The coldness of metal in the corridors... The metallic elements on the stage that do not harmonize with the rest of the concert hall... There were so many things that caught my eye, I couldn't believe it. Let's say some of these are aesthetic preferences. The most glaring example you notice upon entering is whether there is a store area or not is unclear. You can only glance at the products from a distance. It's so impractical. I especially invite Koolhass to spend five minutes in front of one of the toilets here. I saw two kids struggling to open that heavy and unnecessary toilet door! For example, a toilet door that someone needs to open for children, and one that people have to exert unnecessary force to open, is a great architectural failure in my opinion! The use of the area around the building is also far from what is presented in the photographs. I would say the skateboarders make good use of it, but they also complain about the meaningless indentations! :) I'll give it a slightly high rating because the staff were professional and courteous. Our concert experience was generally good. It's a place to go for the music, but don't expect much from the building.

I have attended two concerts, so far, at this innovative venue. The architecture alone is truly inventive and made my visits well worthwhile. Additionally, they have a number of reasonably priced concert series with widely diversified programming. As it is a “house of music” I was most interested to learn about their programming and to hear how the venue works to enhance the experience of the concertgoer. With a very well managed and reasonably priced cafe on the ground/underground floor, at least two concert stages and lots of space for other activities it has a lot to offer. The aesthetics of the entire building, in and out are rather appealing, though not overwhelmingly so. The acoustics of both hall are excellent, though I feel that the largest hall is too large for the chamber music program (Bach keyboard concertos and a Mozart piano concerto) that I attended. 5 stars for originality, 5 stars for aesthetics, 5 stars for programming, 4 stars for acoustics. A solid “win” and definitely worth taking in a concert here while in town if you’re a music lover.

Some visitors mentioned that you have to book a guided tour. Well, this is the case in almost all of Porto's sights (even in a bookshop), and the price for the almost two-hour tour is absolutely reasonable. Casa da Musica is monumental, imposing and a bright example of "out of the box thinking" by redefining the relationship between the hallowed interior and the general public outside. Its skin of shining white concrete is folded into a prismatic wrap, the Grand Auditorium with corrugated glass facades opens the hall to the city of Porto, while the glass itself ripples in waves to break up the surface for acoustic reasons. There is also a smaller performance space, some rehearsal rooms, recording studios, an educational area, a restaurant, a terrace, a room for children, some bars, a VIP room ....A continuous public route connects those spaces by stairs, platforms, and escalators. To visit Casa da Musica resembles a journey through a world of musical and architectural visions.

Wow, I didn’t expect my visit to Casa da Música to be this impressive and making me want to dig out more information about this place! Highly recommend booking a guided tour before your visit! Our guide - Alice (or a name very similar to Alice) was amazing and super knowledgeable! She is not only friendly but also very funny and shared a lot of interesting facts about Casa da Música. Another reason of why you may want to book a tour is that you will be taken to the restricted areas (like the VIP lounge where beautiful tiles lined the walls and the suspended bar where people celebrates during events). Touring through this place is definitely eye opening because you will then realize how much effort and thoughts the designers/architects have put in to make sure this place can function in multiple ways elegantly. I admire the amazing work they did and was inspired by the thoughtfulness of this place. Highly recommend!

Worthy rich experience at one of the most sophisticated projects of OMA architecture. The project represents a concert house, where many concerts and other tourists tours take place. OMA Architects, and in particular Rem Koolhaas, have created a remarkable stunning landmark in Porto. Absolutely worthy to be further recommended and considered to be visited during your stay at port. Make sure to check whether the entire building is open for visitors or not because there are certain visiting times. The building represents a master piece for high architectural value. I would love to visit the project again! The reception staff were extremely rough and rigged to us, I wished they were more friendly, especially they expect visitors from around the world and they must give a good impression, as long the place represents a touristic attraction point.
