We actually intended to stay only one night at Porto Music Guest House and ended up canceling our previously booked hotel to stay two more nights.
The place just recently opened and everything is brand new and absolutely tasteful. The interior design is a mixture of old (e.g. wooden floors, stucco ceilings etc.) and modern furniture (I'd say Danish style).
The host is very friendly, welcoming and caring. She offered me some port wine when checking in and when I told her I wouldn't drink alcohol she put some juice and self made cookies in our room.
There's a kind of common living room that you can use to sit down and relax and a terrace to the backside we you can have breakfast. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with a little kitchen (fridge, sink, microwave, dishes). Beds are comfortable (two different mattresses though) and there are two differently sized pillows available which I really like as I prefer smaller pillows. Everything is perfectly clean and there's enough space for your suitcases.
Breakfast is included and served buffet-style in another bistro-like area or outside. It includes coffee (espresso on request), tea, milk (hot and cold), fresh orange juice, fruit (apples and prunes), 3 types of cereal, yogurt, 3 types of jam, butter, cheese and ham (1 type each), freshly baked bread, buns and typical Portuguese pastries. No eggs though...
All in all a very beautiful, friendly and welcoming place that we enjoyed staying at a lot and that we'd...
Read moreThis B&B was chosen for our stay in Porto due to the great reviews and the price point it came out at. ||Check-In, We were warmly greeted by our host for our short stay in Porto. We had an explanation about orientation of the city and our room with a glass of port in hand.||Room, We we allocated Room 1 on the first floor. This beautiful high ceiling floor comes with all the amenities for a stay. The room was found in nipping clean condition with also a small balcony overlooking the modern ‘Casa Da Musica’. The bathroom is small but nonetheless very functional with a walk-in shower.||Breakfast, Breakfast was a buffet style affair with enough choices to start the day. The lady who serves breakfast, kindly made us some breakfast early on our last morning due to our early train back to Lisbon. ||Staff, A very personable B&B who’s staff made us very welcome. ||Overall, An excellent great value stay in Porto. It is easy to reach which several bus stops nearby with ‘Casa Da Musica’ tram station a 5-10 minute walk away. The location is a little outside of town, but within easy reach by public transport. There are modernisation works happening nearby with regards public transport so when these are finished, access will be even easier. A...
Read morePorto music guest house is located near the casa da musica metro station. So you can easily get around the city using public transportation from here. There's also a couple of restaurants withing walking distance. Walking into the old town takes a bit more than half an hour.
The large roundabout that is close to the location causes a lot of traffic, naturally. The rooms that head towards the back of the building are surprisingly calm, however. Since there is no elevator you may need to carry your luggage a couple of stories to reach your room.
The owners and the staff have been very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is average.
What I didn't like is somehow sticky air at least at the top of the building. You can keep the window open in the room and get mosquitos inside or you can fire up the air conditioning but it is difficult to get a good...
