The guided tour was great, 5/5 🌟 I needed to take notes at one point because it was a lot of interesting info. I almost couldn't keep up.
I gave 4 stars because it pained me that some of the glass protecting the exhibited rocks looked re-patched. Some rooms had a communist vibe. Even though the hard work and love of the scientist from back then is shown, the setting, the showcase and the furniture became fragile and uninviting. So the inside space looks rather austere than welcoming.
The ticket was 15 lei per adult.
At the entrance they have a rock/crystal fair with bracelets, rings, earrings, necklaces etc.
The phosphorescent room was the most desired-to-see room for me and it reminded me of Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky animated movie. One of my colleagues said that the glowing of the minerals was their own unique way of speaking to us.
The builduing served at first as the Geological Institute since it was built on 1906 and from 1990 it became a Museum.
Each visiting room approaches a subject, like: the history of the earth during the ages, the geological evolution of Romania, the "mine flowers" collections, the...

A lot of the same rocks and minerals+all very dusty or damaged. The whole museum is very dated, the layout tried it's best as the rooms were mostly long corridors. The displays were very dated with faded or damaged items, nothing technological seemed be used so no screens or anything, the only thing was maybe the motion sensor dinosaur upstairs which made me jump!
The whole museum was very dark with most of the curtains shut- I assume to keep the place with no AC but it made the cabinets all look very dark and dusty which meant none of the minerals could shine.
For any international visitors the displays are all in Romanian with no English...
Read moreIf you like rocks, this is a must go; they have a very nice collection of all kinds. The dinosaurs were a bit disappointing; they only have a few and the ticket price is 2x of the museum price. Yes, you have to pay separately, as the dino exposition is from a private company (Dino Park from Râșnov). The ticket only costs 20 Ron for a kid and 25 for an adult, but they only have just a few dinosaurs. It took me about 10 minutes, and the kid got bored and we went to the museum to see the rock, where we paid 15 Ron for 2 tickets. The museum shop has, of course, rocks for sale, but also you can find insects bugs, scorpions, etc, inside jad or plastic. There are also some very nice jewelries made from...
