The Armenian Church in Bucharest is part of a religious complex that includes the episcopal residence, the diocesan museum, the cultural center, the kindergarten and the seat of the Association of Romanian Armenians. The church was built in the years 1911 - 1915 on a pattern that resembles the Echmiadzin cathedral in Armenia. The interior contains a simple but interesting solution, completely different from ordinary Romanian Orthodox churches.

Undergoing renovation, moving edifice with notable icons and the constant dirge of sacred music. Quiet repute from noisy city. Icons are very important artistically and spiritually.

The church (built between 1911-15) is an exact replica of a cathedral in the Armenian city of Ecmiazin, and serves the city’s once large but now small Armenian population. Next to the church is an interesting library with a large number of documents relating to the Armenian population (phone ahead for access).

The cornerstone was laid in July 1911, and building proceeded according to the plans of architects Dimitrie Maimarolu and Grigore Cerchez, who was of Armenian origin. Work was completed in September 1915. In the yard, the surrounding complex includes a bishop’s residence, a library and diocesan museum, a cultural center, a kindergarten and the headquarters of the Union of Armenians of Romania .

The church is listed as a historic monument by Romania’s Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs, as are the library and the statue of the Armenian National...

One of the unique Armenian churches. The place has a great history, architecture. The outside it like the cathedral of Etchmiadzin and inside like the cathedral of Ani. Nearby is the Armenian museum of Bucharest, printing house. The church is open until the 14.00 o'clock usually, when there is not a special holiday. Every Sunday in the church the mess...
